25 Jul [CLOSED] Beat the Winter Cold on a Budget
I love winter, in fact, it’s my favourite time of year and probably why my heart belongs in Chile! But my skin isn’t such a fan, and this year it has been taking some major strain, even though it’s not nearly as cold as it once was, this time of year. Thankfully, keeping my skin in tip-top shape with the help of quality products doesn’t have to cost the earth. Don’t believe me? Here are a few of my favourite budget-friendly, mom and baby products that help keep skin hydrated.
1. Aveeno Dermexa Emollient Cream
If you’re looking for a product that is suitable for the whole family and helps combat dry skin, then look no further than the Aveeno Dermexa range. The Emollient Cream was developed by dermatologists and formulated with triple oat technology that works to intensely moisturise skin that is extremely dry, inflamed or irritated by allergies or eczema. By strengthening and reinforcing the skin’s natural barrier, the emollient targets the 5 signs of dry skin: roughness, redness, itchiness, tightness and scaling. I experienced immediate relief after application and love that these products are gentle enough to use on the kids too. Of course, they are soap free, fragrance-free, and paraben free.
2. Aveeno Dermexa Emollient Body Wash
Ever notice how your skin feels a hundred times worse after a shower? The hot water, combined with harsh soaps, strip the skin of its natural oils, and if, like me, you’re already prone to dehydrated skin, it can cause inflammation and lead to extreme sensitivity, which is why choosing a body wash that restores the skin is so important in winter. As part of the Dermexa range, Aveeno also offer an Emollient Body Wash which gently cleanses your skin, without causing any dryness. Like the emollient cream, their body wash contains a unique formula that combines finely-milled oatmeal with Avenanthramides, which is clinically proven to soothe dry and irritated skin.
3. Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream
Admittedly, this is pricier than your typical drugstore hand cream but coming from someone who loathes hand cream, this is totally worth it! Hands (and lips) usually suffer the most during the cooler months, because they’re exposed to the harsh elements and lack proper hydration and protection. I personally hate hand creams, because they leave a slight residue that leaves marks on my screens and laptop, so a non-greasy formula that boasts the ability to instantly absorb into the skin seems like a dream. Well, the Norwegian Handcream from Neutrogena does exactly that, and what’s better is that it repairs and hydrates your skin after the first application. The result is soft, supple hands.
4. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel
You really can’t go wrong with Neutrogena’s infamous Hydro Boost range; it’s one of the most affordable and effective skincare regimens on the market, offering an extensive range of products that target all your combo to dry skin concerns. Their Water Gel Moisturiser is an award-winning formula that absorbs quickly and offers intense hydration. Impressively, it contains hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the skin and acts as a sponge, leaving skin more supple and smooth.
5. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser
I love pairing the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel with their Cleanser to help prevent my skin from being stripped of any moisture, and by using multiple products from the range, I find that they complement one another. Like the moisturiser, the gel cleanser contains hyaluronic acid which keeps skin hydrated. The lightweight gel transforms into a silky lather that removes makeup and impurities, leaving skin refreshed and clean, without drying it out.
6. Johnson’s Baby Top-To-Toe Wash
For baby’s skin, hydration is just as important, if not more! You see, in the womb, your baby is surrounded by liquid, so when they’re born, their skin might struggle to adjust to the elements. I remember that with Axl, the skin around his wrists, ankles and the inside of his armpits would peel. Johnson’s Baby Top-To-Toe Wash is a gentle wash that cleanses your baby from head to toe, with a formula so gentle and pure that you can use it from day one, thanks to their No More Tears guarantee.
7. Johnson’s Baby Top-To-Toe Extra Moisturising Baby Cream
After a warm bath, a massage with cream does wonders for a relaxed baby and has always helped my boys settle quickly into their bedtime routine. The Johnson’s Baby Top-To-Toe Extra Moisturising Baby Cream is deeply nourishing, while still being light-weight and super gentle while repairing, restoring and protecting your baby’s skin from dryness.

I live on copious amounts of coffee, work as a community manager and digital marketer, and spend my free time listening to podcasts and bible journalling. I also enjoy baking fresh treats for my family, exploring our local city, and looking for new family-friendly places for our kids to enjoy. On the weekends, you’ll likely find me shouting at the soccer and showing my support for Tottenham, while pretending to know what I am doing in the Fantasy League. I can be bribed with chocolate and will never admit to having too much makeup – although, I probably do.
