20 Mar ABC Rhyme with Me Alphabet Cards
I recently received a beautiful set of alphabet cards from Bombelino, a local online store that creates handcrafted designs for modern parents.
Ayesha, the creator and mom of 3, believes that reading is an important part of the parenting journey and was inspired to create the set of alphabet cards while reading classics to her children, written by the likes of Roald Dahl and Julia Donaldson.
She created the ABC Rhyme with Me Alphabet Cards to serve as a stepping stone to develop pre-reading skills. The cards feature beautiful and colourful images, letters of the alphabet that can be traced with a whiteboard marker and a poem at the back which tells a story of the visuals shown on the card. The cards are stored in a stunning handcrafted wooden box, for safe keeping so that they can be used time and time again.
These are just some of the ways that the alphabet cards help children:
Visual awareness is developed by your child seeing and hearing the words that you say, represented by the lines of words that they see.
Visual processing is the ability to create mental images using the poems that Ayesha has created at the back of each card. Children will use the words read to them to create a visual picture and story – an important part of reading comprehension.
Phonemic awareness is also developed through the poems where children can hear the different sounds of words through rhyming.
Alphabetic Knowledge is encouraged through children being able to identify the lower and upper-case letters. Also included in the box is a whiteboard marker so that children can practice their handwriting on the cards.
I am the creator behind By Megan Kelly, mom of two boys, named Axl (4-years old) and Eli (1-year old), and local business owner of Dr. Design. I live on copious amounts of coffee, spend my free time listening to podcasts while I garden or journal, and really enjoy baking fresh treats for my family. On the weekends, you’ll likely find me exploring our local city, looking for new family-friendly places for our kids, but that’s only if I am not already shouting at the soccer on TV. I support Tottenham and enjoy pretending to know what I am doing in the Fantasy League, but really I am just in it for the laughs. I can be bribed with chocolate and will never admit to having too much makeup – although, I probably do.
