20 Aug Did Elgydium save my husband’s teeth?
Let me start by saying that I find the concept of toothpaste reviews odd – I mean, do you actually read reviews before buying toothpaste? Usually, I see a new one, buy it and if I like it, I keep buying it. I hardly ever change my toothpaste but I am about to share why it’s a good thing that I did and at the end, you’ll understand why I am bothering to dedicate an entire post to Elgydium toothpaste.
I am sure that I have outlined somewhere before, that my husband is a walking hazard but before I met him, he was also a hazard on the roads. He has had a few car accidents (read a lot) but one, where he wasn’t driving, landed him up in the hospital for over 9 months. During this time, he was only able to lie on his stomach as the base of his spine had shattered (from the seatbelt pulling him back into his seat). 9 months is a very long time – I mean, I have grown a full baby in that time – and shockingly, while he was in the hospital, no one helped to brush his teeth. He thought it’d be okay as there was no immediate sign of damage, but years later he is starting to face the consequences.
Darren has been seeing our family dentist a lot. Actually, at this point, I think that he may see the dentist more often than he sees me (JK!). A lot of the time, it is to repair a cavity that literally seems to pop up overnight. Most recently, Darren was experiencing mild pain and when he did some looking around, he noticed that his back tooth looked like it was decaying – so off we went to the dentist but much to our surprise, it was actually good news.
The dentist explained that before a tooth decays, white spots begin to appear, which then turn brown and finally, they break and cause a cavity. However, in very rare circumstances something happens during that brown-transitioning phase and the tooth begins to recalcify, repairing itself. Unfortunately, the tooth remains blackened but the dentist was shocked to see just how much D’s teeth had improved. She even expressed that she was genuinely quite worried the last time she had seen us and had to ask, what we had changed?
At first, we couldn’t think of anything but then I realized that just after I had given birth, our usual toothpaste was finished so I used it as an opportunity to use the Elgydium toothpaste that I had been sent to review. Turns out that Elgydium toothpaste may just have saved my husband’s teeth (preventing my dentist from cashing in on a new Merc – sorry!)
So, what is Elgydium?
Elgydium Whitening is a non-abrasive, everyday whitening toothpaste used to combat stains and discoloration. The formula does not contain any peroxide or bleaching (these usually make my teeth sensitive) but rather contain micro-pulverised sodium bicarbonate (which is five times smaller than regular sodium bicarbonate), helping to penetrate the finer furrows of your teeth to eliminate stains.
Although my husband doesn’t use Elgydium Whitening for its whitening purposes and more because it’s just there, I do actually care for my teeth to be brighter. My previous whitening toothpaste didn’t help remove stubborn stains which usually stick to the enamel, especially at the tops of my front teeth where my tooth meets the gum. But Elgydium Whitening helps to clean and polish my teeth, without scratching or damaging the enamel and somehow still smoothes the surface, leaving brighter and whiter teeth. This result is especially great for when I wear bold lipsticks like reds and plums, as these colours can highlight the discolouration of my teeth much more than others.
My experience with Elgydium Whitening toothpaste piqued my curiosity, enough for me to pull out and try their Brilliance and Care Whitening Treatment, which is used twice a week instead of the toothpaste. The treatment is a low foaming polishing paste that helps to reduce stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine and nicotine.
I drink a lot of coffee and soft drinks, so of course, I didn’t expect to see any immediate results. But honestly, this treatment is my new best friend – every time I use it, I call D to show him just how bright my smile is. It’s quite impressive how noticeable the difference really is!
Elgydium Brilliance and Care uses Bamboo Silica and Mineral Silica beads to gently polish your teeth’s surface without damaging the enamel. In addition, the treatment also contains Fluorinol, which binds to the tooth enamel to remineralise and reinforce it, reducing tooth sensitivity.
Overall, Elgydium has quite honestly blown us both away for two entirely different reasons. My husband is grateful that it seems to have helped repair damage caused to his teeth, and I love the whitening effect it has had. As I said, toothpaste is one of those things I rarely change up and after this experience, I just don’t see us using anything else! Go on, dare to get a brighter smile and try Elgydium for yourself!
You can get your Elgydium Whitening toothpaste for R59.95 and the Brilliance and Care Treatment for R69.95 from Dis-Chem and selected independent pharmacies.
