[#365BeautyTips] 2016 Favourites – Pt 1

The fourty-ninth week of #365BeautyTips has come to an end and as promised, I have put together a round-up post which puts all the beauty tips, shared this week, in one place. The idea is to share any extra information and answer the questions that you may have asked on my social media posts. Remember that if you want to stay up to date with my 365 days of beauty challenge, then follow me on InstagramFacebook, and Twitter.

We’re coming to the end of my #365BeautyTips challenge, so I thought that I’d focus the last portion of the year on sharing some of my absolute favourite finds. Some of these favourites have already been featured in the series while others are still waiting for their spotlight, because I haven’t gotten around to sharing just how much I absolutely adore the product. Now that this series is wrapping up, I am already working on the content that I plan to bring you in the new year, and it’s bound to get exciting!

2016 Favourites - By Megan Kelly

Favourite Nailpolish FindsGel Envy - By Megan Kelly

I had long since given up on finding a nail polish that actually lasts longer than 24-hours but 2016 brought 2 brands who knocked the wind from my chest and delivered superb formulas like no other. The first brand being Revlon and their Gel Envy range. The 2-step range brings you a broad range of pigmented colors which are quick-drying and long-lasting, but the real magic is the top coat which I pair with every and any nail polish because it is THAT good. The top coat dries quickly, isn’t clumpy and most of all, it seals the nail to prevent chipping or cracking. My nails seem so much healthier, stronger and longer since introducing the Gel Envy Top coat to my routine, and if this little write up doesn’t prove my dedication maybe the 4 or 5 open bottles I have around the house will convince you that this stuff, is literally gold!

#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 345Morgan Taylor - By Megan Kelly

As mentioned, there were two nail polish brands that stood out from anything else that I had tried. The second brand, without a doubt, is the incredible range of Morgan Taylor. I had first tried their range when I visited Sorbet to experience their Medi-Pedi, and it’s honestly been love ever since (remind me to show you my snazzy Morgan Taylor 2017 Calendar – it is AMAZING!) They have one helluva broad range of colours – I mean, they don’t just offer a simple shade of red, they have tomato, cherry, apple, glitter, sparkly, pearlescent, and probably even glow-in-the-dark shades of reds. Their bottles are massive, their formulas don’t get thick or clumpy after one use, they’re quick drying and what I personally like is, that their polishes don’t require several layers for the colour to really show up. Most times, I am okay with a single coat and just go in with a second coat out of habit.

By now, you have probably realized that 2016 was a pivotal year for my brows. They found their curves and I mastered waxing, grooming and best of all filling them in, for a look that I am not afraid to say, rivals Cara’s infamous brows. My grooming routine has become quite the art form, and the two tools that I without a doubt have to thank is the Billion Dollar Brow Buddy which I use to measure the different angles to ensure that my brows are shaped for my face, aligned and matching. I can’t imagine trying to figure out the technical aspect of matching brows without having the Brow Buddy in my arsenal – it makes grooming simple and is definitely worth the investment. The Tweezerman tweezer has transformed tweezing, thanks to its quality design and phenomenal precision. I have tried several different tweezers and nothing sits as comfortably as the slightly weighted Tweezerman. But the real magic is in it’s sharp and precise point, which grabs every hair no matter how long or short. In the past, I have had horribly stubborn ingrown hairs that would grow just below my brow line, and I would often bruise my eyelid trying to pluck them. But with Tweezeerman, they are simple and easy to zone in on and remove.

kleancolor - By Megan KellyStill, on the topic of brows, I have tried just about everything from powder, to gel, to pencil and everything in between to fill in my brows (I have a planned post to compare the different types of products). I have gone for both cheap and higher end products and the product that stands out the most is the $1 find from the online store Shop Miss A, from their stocked brand called Kleancolor. The triangular design ensures a steady grip, while the soft and highly pigmented kajal means that very little product goes quite a long way. I usually just have to “line” my brows before using the brush on the end to comb the colour through the brows, and even it all out.

Hair Care

Noughty Haircare - By Megan Kelly

I don’t really gush about haircare all that often, but these two ranges took me by surprise and saw the start of me pursuing a sulfate free and no-nasties journey. The first being the Wave Hello range by Noughty Haircare which I have written quite an in-depth review about, including the brand’s aims and the Wave Hello range, in general. But to recap, this range added the kind of texture that I have always been looking for – it smells incredible, the packaging is gorgeous and there is nothing that I can fault! I have had quite a few more questions about their range which I found all the answers to in their quirky FAQ section of their UK-based site, so if you are wanting to know more about what goes inside, whether they test on animals (they don’t) and why they’re one of the most loved and popular brands in the UK, be sure to take a peek. Better yet, go on and try them – they’re available from Clicks.

While I am pregnant, I have been wanting to grow my hair – my hair grows stronger whilst I am pregnant, so I figured it is best to try growing as much length as I can while I have this bun in my oven. Of course, a little encouragement never hurt anyone, so when Marc Anthony’s Caffeine and Ginseng Grow Long range landed on my desk and bragged that it encourages and stimulates the roots for optimal growth, I put it to use almost immediately. The range also boasts no sulfates and doesn’t cause build up, so my hair stays cleaner for longer. Since introducing products that have less nasties, I have noticed my hair looks and feels much healthier and shinier, so I feel it’s a path I will most likely continue.

StyleRush - By Megan KellyWhile we’re chatting about hair, let’s share hair tools that I can’t live without. The StyleRush styler is right up there as one of my all-time favourite finds, this year. It offers the same great quality as it’s high-end sister GlamPalm (I own both and can say that they are very much alike – keep an eye out for a comparison post) and is great for creating an endless variety of hair looks that can be anything from straight and sleek to curly and luscious. If you’re looking to know more, I have shared my unboxing, first impressions and promo code over here, but keep an eye out because there’s a lot more where that came from!

Skincare Heroes

Dermalogica - By Megan Kelly

Without a doubt, a skincare brand who changed my approach to skincare this year, has been Dermalogica. I can go on and on about what their range of products have done for my skin, but I urge you to go through some of my older makeup tutorials and look at how often my skin was inflamed or covered in pimples, even with foundation attempting to cover it. Lately, I can go days or even weeks without wearing a spot of makeup, and it’s just the most amazing thing! I have gained a new confidence in my own skin, by using a brand who’s main focus is understanding that each individual has their own skin journey and that what might work for everyone else may not necessarily work for me, so it’s important to treat me and my skin uniquely to the next. I love and adore the brand so much that I have partnered up with them to work on something very cool for the new year, so keep an eye out for that and expect to be wowed by what this brand has to offer! Also, if you’re wanting to know more about the products that I swear by, check out my blog posts here and here.

And that is a wrap on the last 7 days. Whoop-Whoop! Remember that I love any feedback – what have you enjoyed seeing, what would you like to see more of and perhaps if you have any suggestions, questions or products you would like me to chat more about. I really enjoyed the themed days – what themes would you like to see next?

[…] A few weeks ago, I hinted that I was working with Dermalogica on an exciting new campaign and today, I am finally ready to spill the beans! As you probably know by now, I have had quite the skin journey and sometimes, I actually forget just how far my skin has come. […]
