11 Aug Cellulite treatment with ELANCYL
No matter whether you’re embracing your curves or the slimmest girl at the Olympics, a mother of six or a young teenager trying to navigate the world, we all have seen some degree of the dreaded orange peel. Yes, cellulite is not one to discriminate and I was playing the fool, thinking that I was excluded from the inner circle. But recently, I was trying on clothes in a changing room with all the bad lighting and a wall full of mirrors and was honestly shocked at how out of control my cellulite had gotten.
So it was just by absolute chance that Rubybox had a new review campaign for a brand that I knew very little about. Cue ELANCYL. Rubybox asked that for a month, I put the ELANCYL routine to the test and report back to you, on what I thought of the products – sounds simple, right?
For over 40 years ELANCYL has been assisting women in their quest for a smoother, firmer silhouette. Scientific breakthroughs and clinically proven efficacy make ELANCYL the pioneers in slimming body care. Their selling point is that their range provides targeted care, with unique efficacy and safety guaranteed by the meticulous nature of a dermo-cosmetic laboratory.
ELANCYL promises to give you visible results from the 14th day of use – yes, just 2 weeks of using their product which features slimming, firming and draining action and leaves the skin smooth, firm and hydrated. Interestingly, this range includes some standout ingredients like Ivy, Caffeine and Sichuan Pepper.
Here’s what you need to know about cellulite
Before you hit the facts and are still wondering exactly what IS cellulite? It’s the dimpled texture that you often find on your bum and thighs – well, that’s where I do, anyway.
Everyone can get it – yes, you, me and even your neighbour
Women struggle with cellulite more than men, but there are a number of things that can trigger cellulite. These factors can be anything from fad dieting, a slow metabolism, poor diet, lack of exercise, hormonal changes, dehydration, the thickness of your skin and much more.
That being said, it does not mean you’re overweight or unhealthy
Look at the list above. Cellulite can be caused by any number of issues, so remember that having cellulite has nothing to do with your weight.
You can probably thank your mom, aunt or gran
If someone in your family is also dealing with cellulite, it is likely that they have passed it down to you.
There are different types of cellulite and knowing which one you have, can help treat it
Adipose cellulite – firm cellulite (or what looks like an orange peel effect on loose skin)
Fibrotic cellulite – hard, compact cellulite
Oedematous cellulite – caused by fluid retention (which looks like soft cellulite often on loose skin)
It’s not just on your butt and thighs
Cellulite will form in areas where there is very little circulation.
You can prevent it
Doing small movements and skin warming exercises will help reduce and help prevent it, but be sure to remain consistent for the desired results.
So I tried ELANCYL and here’s what I thought
As I mentioned, I didn’t know much about the brand so when I hit Google and found varying reviews, I sort of felt a little uneasy but hell, I am up for trying anything and this won’t be an exception. The bright green packaging stands out from other products promising to target cellulite and really takes you back to their philosophy of developing products with plant-based active ingredients, that respect the natural beauty of your body.
In the set that Rubybox sent me, there was:
- ELANCYL ACTIV’ SLIMMING MASSAGE – R495.00 – 200ml
A professional slimming massage technique developed by a physiotherapist, to help visibly smooth dimpled skin, improve drainage in congested areas and enhance skin tone.
- ELANCYL CELLU SLIM – R395.00 – 250ml
The unique formula visibly reduces the appearance of stubborn cellulite, leaving your skin smoother and firmer.
- ELANCYL CELLU SLIM NIGHT – R495.00 – 250ml
GP4G stimulates nocturnal cellular metabolism, boosting the breakdown action of Cecropia and Caffeine. Cellulite is reduced and skin is nourished, smoother and firmer.
I am going to be frank and just say that when I got the products I looked at the directions on the box or on a leaflet included which instructed me to go see their how-to video, online. But ain’t nobody got time for that, so I used the product the way that I thought was correct. While putting this review together, I did attempt to watch the how-to video but it reminded me of my days of sitting at the back of a Spur, learning the correct way of dealing with a grouchy customer – it was boring and long-winded, and had I applied that method, I would probably have added 10 extra minutes to my shower routine, which already sees me always running out of hot water before my hair has been rinsed.
I don’t think we have to overcomplicate the method and in all seriousness, the product still did the job! I mean, did you see my recent #BMKBucketList challenge? I wore a dress that ended above my knees – knees that are usually A LOT chunkier. Everywhere that I read up on cellulite solutions, suggested that investing in a body brush is your first step to combating cellulite. Daily body brushing, stroking in the direction towards your heart, or a strong-handed massage on the thighs will increase fat dispersion, but as with anything has to be done on a regular basis.
Which leads me to my next thing – I am horrible. I mean HOR-RI-BLE at applying cream daily, never mind two separate creams for evening and day. The system seemed complicated and to add to it, I needed to massage my jiggly bits in the midst of winter at 1am, when I finish work and am logging off to go to bed. But all is not fair when getting summer ready, in the midst of winter. The creams were great – light on the skin, easily absorbed, no sticky residue like cellulite and firming creams that I have tried before, and these dried really quickly. Plus, ELANCYL promises 24-hr effectiveness, which sort of means that if you skip on tonight’s application, you’re not tossing the entire routine (well, that’s what I’d like to tell myself, anyway!)
The scent is a little too masculine for my liking, well the Slimming Massage is, anyway. The creams, however, weren’t so in-your-face about draining my body of it’s fat deposits and sort of grew on me by the second week. If you suffer, with terribly dry skin, you may want to continue with your usual moisturizing routine after applying ELANCYL, as the formula was great on my own skin, but isn’t that typical body butter texture (much to my own liking!) that we’re prone to choosing, especially in the winter months.
My favourite product of the range was easily the body brush and Activ’ Slimming Massage shower gel, as it was an easy adaption to include in my daily shower routine. I thoroughly enjoyed the firmness of their body brush and am so prone to seeing those old-school wooden body brushes, so welcomed ELANCYL’s one, that could be taken apart, cleaned and worked really easily to massage the area (plus, it makes for an incredible back massage!) It also has a really flexible and comfortable grip, that I ended up using the body brush whenever I could!
I was impressed that after 2,5 weeks, I noticed a firmer looking boot-ay and am not so insecure about wearing body-hugging, brightly-coloured workout tights that used to show up every imperfection. Once I had created the habit of using the different lotions and potions, it seemed to fit in easily with my routine – it just took a bit of adjusting and I will admit that there have been a few nights where I skipped my cream, altogether. I also read that you should apply cellulite creams after you have exercised, while your muscles are still warm, for the creams to perform better and really get in there.
A special thanks to Rubybox for introducing me to ELANCYL and allowing me to take part in this month’s review club.
