28 Jun Dermalogica Skin Heroes
You remember how Sorbet Walmer Park introduced me to Dermalogica? Well, they are on a mission to change my skin, for the better, and I have to agree – it’s been a good trial!
I have grown very fond of the team at Sorbet Walmer Park. The environment is light-hearted, welcoming, and the owner, Sandra, is the type of women you want to have a cup of coffee with, and just listen to. The day before Mother’s Day, Sorbet Walmer Park were hosting a VIP shopping experience and as per usual, curiosity had gotten the better of me. The shops were filled with men and their children, desperately looking for the special gift to thank mom for the little notes that she slips in their lunchboxes, for picking up their sweaty socks and for loving unconditionally. Admittedly, I love people-watching and special occasions make my heart want to explode, as I see the thought that goes into picking the right gift. But I digress, Sorbet Walmer Park is where the right gift always lives, and they did Mother’s Day the right way; champers, cupcakes, and manis.
I met with a few ladies who were Dermalogica specialists, we chatted skin care, skin concerns and which products worked and didn’t work for my skin. After the celebrations had come to an end, I was gifted my own Dermalogica skin kit to begin a new sort of skin journey.
The Dermalogica kit included 4 products namely, Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel, Daily Microfoliant, Skin Smoothing Cream, Multi-Vitamin Power Firm, and as always, the team were kind enough to throw in some Dermalogica samples of products that they thought would be a good fit. The kit and samples both featured products that truly stuck out to be my skin heroes and that I would voluntarily repurchase.
The Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and Skin Smoothing Cream were two products that although I knew were needed in the routine, they didn’t stick out as being game changers. Of course, this is just a personal observation and they will most likely react differently to your own skin. For me, I found that the cleanser was much like most cleansers in texture, smell and the way it reacted to my skin. After washing with it, I found that my skin would tighten and I would immediately need to reach for my moisturizer, the Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream. The moisturizer is light in texture , absorbs quickly and left my skin feeling hydrated. However, I wasn’t such a fan of the smell which came across as the tiniest bit chemically.
Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant is the one product that made me do a double take. You all know just how much I love my exfoliators, so when they told me that this was safe to be used on the daily basis, I did a little rain dance! The Daily Microfoliant is a fine powder which is activated with a sprinkle of water, turning the micro-granules into a foam. The foam has the lightest exfoliating texture which helps slough away dead skin cells and left my skin looking brighter and feeling softer. The cool thing about the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is that you cannot over exfoliate or damage your skin cells, as the granules start dissolving as you work it over your skin, so it is gentle enough for daily use AND dissolves before you over-work it.
I’m not going to get all technical with the ingredients because let’s be honest, I am no skincare guru. But, the active ingredients of the Dermalogica Microfoliant are activated by water, which creates a foam-like product to micro-exfoliate dead skin, instantly leaving skin smoother and brighter. Dermalogica’s Skin Brightening Complex helps balance the uneven skin pigmentation, but my favourite part about the Daily Microfoliant is the soothing blend of Green Tea which helps to calm the skin, and as you know, leaves you feeling refreshed while clearing out toxins.
So my usual eye cream is having a bit of a stock issue, nationwide, and I had given up on finding a new love. Well, that was until Dermalogica’s Multi-Vitamin Power Firm was introduced into my skin care routine. Wowzers, the fruity-sweet scent is enough to make me sing. I absolutely love the smell and if it weren’t for better sense, I’d say it is edible. I have featured this eye cream as part of my #365BeautyTips series, but let me refresh your memory. Dermalogica’s Multi-Vitamin Power Firm boasts a formula that improves elasticity to helps combat lines around the eye area. It also works to accelerate the skin’s natural repair process with a combination of Vitamin A (Retinol) as antioxidant, vitamins C and E which, as mentioned, increases elasticity while scavenging free radicals. This texture has a somewhat powdery feel, and you truly need just the tiniest bit to treat your eye area. It’s a refreshing start to my day and probably one of my favourite scents, from the range.
As mentioned, Sorbet Walmer Park were kind enough to toss in a few extra samples to try out. They heard how the Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque is pretty much like my crack cocaine, so they slipped some of those bad boys in there. Another sample which shattered my expectations and is definitely something I NEED a full size of, is the Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel. You remember my obsession with Tea-Tree, right? Well, this is just everything you need from a spot-treatment (and more).
The Overnight Clearing Gel is applied before bed and by the morning, you notice a dramatic difference. I have noticed 2 different results each time I used a sample. The first time I had a smallish spot, which had disappeared by morning, and the second time, it had completely drawn out a blind pimple to the surface, without that awkward dull-pain. If you’ve been following my blog, you will know that Tea-Tree is my go-to and helps soothe and treat spots, but Dermalogica took it a step further and created a formula that is undeniably effective in treating stubborn spots that pop up before a date or interview.
Just one week after use of Dermalogica’s Range
Over time, I noticed that the texture of my skin had changed with the consistent use of the Dermalogica range. I was less likely of having breakouts and flare ups on the recurring basis and my problematic areas like around my nose, hairline, neck and forehead were no longer scattered with blackheads and started taking on a smoother and refined appearance. When I did notice my odd spot, the daily use of the Dermalogica kit seemed to really draw it out and instead of having a tiny spot that would sit for a week, it would completely come to the surface and draw out. It seems gross, believe me, I am not a fan of writing about how my pimples look, but these are changes that I noticed from the start of my skin journey with Dermalogica, and what made the journey all the more worth it.
Dermalogica’s range if formulated without artificial fragrances, colors or parabens.
As always, thank you to the delightful team and Sandra from Sorbet Walmer Park for always spoiling me – I truly appreciated being at your spa and love the environment. I will be back soon, because this momma needs some treating pronto.
