#365BeautyTips: Day 1-7

The first week of #365BeautyTips has come to an end and as promised, I have put together a round-up post which puts all the beauty tips, shared this week, in one place. The idea is to share any extra information and answer the questions that you may have asked on my social-media posts. Remember that if you want to stay up to date with my 365 days of beauty challenge, then follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

I thought that after the late night that you might have had, why not talk about eye bags. I had never experienced dark circles or bags under my eyes until I had a kid, it was literally overnight: one night I was heavily pregnant, great skin and an even complexion and the very next night, I had a little bundle in my arms with a whole lot of baggage under my eyes. I tried so many different products, but this duo from Nip+Fab South Africa is the secret formula that I’ve found works to reduce the bags under my eyes (other than a good night sleep!).

Nip+Fab Dark Circle Fix

This 3-In-1 formula helps reduce puffiness under the eye and tightens the skin around your eye area. The formula is known to be fast acting and helps boost tired looking eyes, due to its key ingredients:

– Red algae targets dark circles
– Tetra peptide reduces the look of puffiness
– Shea butter hydrates and softens

If you’re worried about sticking to a budget or want to settle for just using one product of the two, then this is your guy! One tube lasts around 4 months or even longer, as you end up using less than a pea-size amount, around the eye-area daily. It’s a light and refreshing formula which absorbs nicely into the skin and within 3-5 days of use, you can already expect to start seeing improvement in even the darkest circles.

Nip+Fab Viper Venom Eye Fix

This is a refreshing eye-gel, in a cooling roll-on applicator. The formula contains wrinkle minimizing LIFTONIN + SYN-AKE which smoothes the appearances of fine lines and wrinkles, around your eyes. Just like the dark circle fix, it also contains red algae extract to reduce the look of dark circles, for a more radiant and boosting effect.

Baby shampoo is a very affordable beauty product and I highly recommend this one from Purity & Elizabeth Anne’s. It is a soap free, gentle cleaning formula with a buttery texture, very similar to some expensive cleansing balms. It has the lightest scent and packs many uses. Top on my list includes:

  • using it as a shaving cream, it doesn’t dry out your skin and is A LOT cheaper than most shaving creams on the market
  • using it to remove makeup, especially eye makeup as it doesn’t burn your eyes
  • cleaning makeup brushes as it removes all the stubborn build-up while leaving them soft and smelling fresh
  • using it as an awesome light-weight moisturizer or body wash when your skin is feeling dry or itchy

#365BeautyTips – Day: 3

Before I settled on the #365BeautyTips challenge, I was pretty excited to do 365 days of sharing my makeup of the day or even doing 365 beauty tutorials. Both challenges seemed impossible which is why I settled on the #365BeautyTips where I could cover a variety of topics: tips, tricks, tutorials and product features. Day 3 saw me sharing the first makeup of the day and that’s probably because before then, I hadn’t been wearing makeup as I was sick in bed. However, I had to get my ass out of bed to see some family from out of town, which meant finally having the chance to play with some of the makeup that I was gifted over the festive season.

I was going for a simple look with striking lips, here’s a list of products used:

  • L’Oréal Paris: Infallible 24hr- Matte foundation in 24: Golden Beige
  • Catrice: Colour Correcting Matte Powder in 010: Delicate Blossom
  • Catrice: Limited Edition Luminizing Bronzer (Illumination Edition) in C01: New Bronze Age
  • Essence: Soo Blush cream to powder in 20: Everything is better in Pink!

  • Urban Decay Cosmetics: Naked 2 Palette in the shade: Chopper
  • Signature Cosmetics: Naked Matte in the darkest matte shade
  • Essence: I love extreme volume mascara (waterproof)

  • Billion Dollar Brows: Universal Brow Pencil

  • L’Oreal Paris: Xtreme Resist in 501: Bulletproof

#365BeautyTips – Day: 4

IMG_1738 (1280x960)If there is a single product that I am grateful for having discovered, this festive season, it would be this gem from Catrice Cosmetics. The bronzer from their Illumination range (C01: New Bronze Age) is simply divine and offers an effortless sunkissed glow. I have always been so afraid of bronzer since my first encounter ended up being quite messy: It was miles too dark and made me look like an extra from Jersey Shore. Recently, I gave bronzer another try and am so glad that I did! The illuminating baked bronzing powder has a subtle touch of rosey pink giving a more natural sun-kissed look, with a light hint of shimmer which works well to creating a gorgeous glow, suitable for different skintones. The powder blends easily and gives incredible pigment without being too messy or chalky. I also always thought that bronzing and contouring was the same thing, but apparently it isn’t so don’t overdo it by using both!

#365BeautyTips – Day: 5

If you’re short on time and are looking for a quick pop of colour, then start stocking up on these chubby sticks. They are one of the best ways to get your eye makeup done quickly and unlike eyeliner or eyeshadow, they are not all about precision. Draw them all over your lid and blend it out using a brush or even your fingers, for a quick pop of colour. The  formula allows for easy blending and the texture ensures high pigment with an all-day lasting effect. The two, pictured above,  from Almay  (Wakeup Eyeliner+Highlighter and Intense I-Colour Shadow Stick) are doubley awesome as they both are a 2-in-1 with a highlighter on the one end and colour on the other, essential for those bright eyes. The others from Hean (Stick Eyeshadow) and Rimmel (Scandal Eyes eyeshadow stick/crayon) are also great to use as a primer, especially if you’re looking to create a dramatic eye, as the eye shadow tends to show up more vibrantly and the sticky texture means better longevity.

#365BeautyTips – Day: 6

I knew that there was no way to include all the great qualities from Celltone’s skincare products in one single Instagram post, so I opted for writing an extensive review but instead of boring you with any repeated information, you can find my full review of this incredible luxury skincare range over here.

#365BeautyTips – Day: 7

I am relatively new to using concealers but ordered this palette from E-Bay ages ago and have only just started playing around with it. If you’re not eager to try your luck with E-bay or AliExpress, then go ahead and try Catrice’s Prime+Fine range or their phenomenal concealer palette, available from Dis-Chem, Takealot and Red Square Stores. Also, take a look at Smashbox’s infamous range of primers which include colour correcting properties, too. I really like creamy concealers (and blushes) because they leave you with fresh, dewy looking skin, perfect for summer makeup! What I didn’t know was just how to use the different colours like the green and pink. So here’s to learning new things and sharing them with you:

Do you remember learning about the color wheel in primary school? We were taught that the colours directly across from another cancels the other out. So if red is directly across from green on the wheel, the colour green will neutralize the colour red, which is why green concealer works best to cover red acne blemishes.

So which colours work for what, exactly?

  • Neautral (nudes or regular concealer) : just needing to hide the occasional pimplea
  • Yellow: Hides purple or blue bruises and is great for dark-circles, under the eyes.
  • Purple: Eliminates yellow undertones
  • Pink/Peach: Brightening around the eye area and hiding mom’s tired eyes!
  • Green: Helps with any redness on your face like a pimple, acne scars, rosacea, sunburn or blotchiness.

And that is a wrap on our first 7 days. Whoop-Whoop! Admittedly, everyday I scramble trying to find something interesting to share with you. As much as the challenge excites the beauty addict in me, I still want to bring you good content and signing up to do this for 365 days is quite the task, especially when you have a chest infection and very little voice.

I would love any feedback – what have you enjoyed seeing, what would you like to see more of and perhaps if you have any suggestions, questions or products you would like me to chat more about.
