13 Dec [CLOSED] Tips for Travelling with Kids
Few things can ruin a much-needed family holiday, but the anxiety over travelling with kids can put a damper on things. Luckily, I have a few tried and tested ways of keeping kids distracted while travelling, just in time for the festive season!
1. PLAN AHEAD BUT PLAN TO TAKE YOUR TIME
Although it’s always good to have a rough idea of what you will be doing next (just so that you have an answer for the inevitable 100 questions) be sure to include time between activities. Whether it’s a long car trip, activities to do while on holiday or travelling between attractions, kids love to explore! Instead of getting worked up over making the next bus or train, give yourself more time so that your kids can enjoy and explore their new surroundings, and while you’re at it, take a moment to breathe it all in too!
2. DON’T FORGET THE WET WIPES
Number one travel buddy? Wet wipes. Wet wipes are useful when kids get messy and can be used to wipe hands, faces, toilet seats, trolley handles, or just for cooling down while in the car or aeroplane. Slip a travel-friendly pack of wipes into each of the kids’ bags and your own bag, too… just in case!
While on the topic of toiletries – keep things fresh with Purity and Elizabeth Anne’s Fresh range which includes a convenient Head-to-Toe wash, Baby Powder and more. Remember that Baby Powder is super helpful – it can be used as a dry shampoo, to treat and prevent chaffing, absorb moisture and odour in sneakers and beach bags, and is great if you cut yourself and don’t have a plaster, as it helps the blood clot.
3. GIVE THEM A CAMERA
Stock up on a disposable camera or perhaps hand over one of your first digital cameras, so that the kids can get involved and enjoy soaking up their surroundings by focusing on taking their own photos. Besides a whole lot of photos of his toes, nostrils and blurred grass, my son enjoys capturing nature from his height. It’s amazing to see the world through his eyes and makes for a good memory book or collage.
4. PLAN GAMES AND BE APP-READY
It’s no secret that the easiest way to cart an entire collection of books, toys and activities is in an all convenient electronic tablet or iPad. Be sure to download games and books ahead of time and don’t forget the charger! Also, try finding games that include activities focused around travelling or perhaps see if there is something about the destination you’re heading to. Kids love to learn and absorb, so plan games that can be played while making the trip!
5. PACK SNACKS!
I lied. Number one travel buddy? SNACKS! Purity has a wide variety of snacks which include juice boxes, milkshakes, pure sachets, biscuits, dried fruit and even instant oats. They’re conveniently packaged, making them great travel companions and with so many snacks to choose from, your kids are sure to find something they love!
