When I was a little girl, I remember visiting my godmother and seeing her perfume stand that stood on the top of her chest of drawers. I was mesmerized by each bottle; so unique from each other, so elegant and beautiful. Since then, I have always felt like it was a goal in life to have a shelf just like hers but until about a year or two ago, I had never owned my own perfume – yep, never. So, when Elizabeth Arden sent over a bunch of their new releases I just about flipped out, realizing that sometimes, I do get to live out my childhood dream.
Today, I thought that I’d share a little about some of the fragrances that I received so that you can decide which one is for you!
Le Mia Perla
La Perla’s new scent La Mia Perla is a tribute to female beauty, power and strength. The fragrance exudes beauty, and femininity while the pearl represents power and intrigue. Unlike other fragrances, La Mia Perla has abandoned the classic fragrance pyramid structure and instead has chosen a circular composition – like a pearl – resulting in one rich symphony of scent, that is infinite and unchanging. Mandarin, white pepper and Jasmine Sambac are at the core, with a feminine and floral touch of white peonies, balanced out by the powerful scent of muskiness. The perfume will be available for purchase from October 2017 – in time for those Christmas wishlists – starting at R950 for the 30ml Eau de Parfum.
I don’t want to ruin this for anyone, but I can say that without a doubt, Le Mia Perla is my favourite perfume from this season’s launches, if not of all time. It is both equally soft and feminine while remaining musky and powerful; it’s a beautiful balance, not to mention the breath-taking design of the bottle. It is as if every component of this perfume was considered right from the story, the inspiration, the scent and the bottle – it’s all wonderfully executed.
Giorgio Beverly Hills
Giorgio Gold from Giorgio Beverly Hills is a rich oriental fragrance, featuring top notes that include jasmine, plum and quince, while its middle notes feature rose, oud and cedar wood, complemented by base notes of amber, vanilla and cashmere woods. Draped in golden shimmer, Giorgio Gold emanates a daring, irresistible style capturing all that is treasured and scarce.
Giorgio Glam is a flirty floral fragrance featuring top notes of cyclamen flower, magnolia and peony. At the heart is a fresh burst of iris, jasmine, plum, while the base notes include amber and sandalwood. Giorgio Glam fuses the white florals of the classic Giorgio Beverly Hills fragrance and blends in today’s contemporary style and glamour. Indulgent, charming and sophisticated sums up this fragrance, with its floral woody bouquet, draped in confidence.
While equally beautiful, I feel that both of these scents are too rich for me and that I fall somewhat in the middle of the two types of people that these scents seem great for. Giorgio Glam is the perfect fragrance for a girls’ night out; it’s young, fun and flirty while Giorgio Gold is a more mature scent; classic and timeless.
Britney Spears VIP Private Show
Can’t afford a VIP ticket? Britney’s latest perfume is inspired by the intimate effort of putting on a private show, celebrating her passion for dancing and entertaining an audience. The scent is a sweet-fruity addition to her impressive line of fragrances, offering top notes of blood orange, red apple and mango, while the middle notes include floral scents of violet blossom, magnolia, and orange blossom. The magic, though, is at the core, with a sensual blend of raspberry wood, golden amber and musk.
When Britney Spears launched her first fragrance, Curious, I remember asking my mom to go to all the perfume counters to collect samples of the scent. It was the first perfume that I ever WANTED – mostly because it was Britney – but even now, Curious remains one of my favourites. What can I say? Britney just knows how to do perfumes! Her latest launch is no different and is a sweet melody of fruity scents, especially great for the warmer months ahead.
I still have a few other perfumes that I am pretty keen to share in another post, would you like to see another one?
