Clarins holds such a special place in my heart; it’s one of the first high-end brands that I ever used and honestly, their products never fail me. Fun fact: when I first started blogging, I couldn’t afford their products so I’d go to their counter and get a bunch of samples to write my reviews.
Anyway, I digress…
Earlier this year, I saw their annual summer collection featured on international blogs and YouTube channels and was crazy enough to email their PR asking for more information and images because heck, I wanted to feature those babies. I had a good giggle when their lovely PR came back with a gentle, “Megan, it’s winter in South Africa.” So, I waited – not so patiently – but Spring has sprung and with it comes the glorious summer launches that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on.
Each year, Clarins grants our bronzed dreams with a limited-edition bronzer, as part of their summer collection. While the entire collection is always exquisite, the bronzer is usually the highlight of my makeup dreams. But this year, I couldn’t pick favourites; they did such a great job with the entire collection that it’s impossible to say that just one product stands out.
I feel that Clarins puts so much thought into every aspect of their products, from the well-picked ingredients, the stunning packaging, the versatility that each product offers, to even the way that every product compliments the other but still has the ability to work on its own. Clarins just knows how to do a summer collection.
This year’s bronzer continues the tradition of its predecessors and features 3 matte bronzers and an iridescent coral blush. Although I have been straying away from the matte trends and rekindling my love for fresh, dewy skin, this bronzer is right up my alley with a velvety finish. The product sort of melts like butter into the skin, giving it a beautiful glow that looks naturally luminous and warm. The beautifully embossed bronzer has been arranged in the form of a setting sun, with the coral blush being “the sun.” You can use the bronzers separately, or if you’re like me (read lazy) you can use a big fluffy brush to sweep all over the bronzer and add a glorious glow to your face.
The limited edition Clarins 4-colour eyeshadow palette keeps with the current trend of warm-tones, and features 4 beautiful eyeshadows, with a matte, satin and pearl finish. The beige, gold and brown are complimented with a pop of orange that immediately demands your attention. I think that for non-makeup wearers, this quad can seem somewhat intimidating, but one swipe of the pigmented shadows and you’ll see exactly why I could easily go an entire holiday with only this palette in my bag. It impressively offers exceptional versatility, and whether you choose to apply each of the shadows on their own or layer them for an intense look, you’re sure to be blown away.
Also included in the summer collection were two Waterproof Eye Pencils in Gold and Copper shades. I can’t actually say when last I wore eyeliner, but the Copper shade that I received is just so soft that it glides on smoothly, creating this effortless pop of colour that works really well with my brown eyes. The copper is a warm, almost burnt orange shade with a gorgeous metallic finish. At first, I expected the finish to be somewhat chunky, or hard to apply but this wasn’t the case at all and I have really grown quite attached to using the pencil in my waterline or even smudged on my lid for a quick and effortless makeup look.
Although the summer collection does include a lipstick, I like to finish my look using a summer favourite; Clarins Lip Comfort Oils which gives lips a fresh, juicy look.
