During pre-school, I remember clearly how much I loved playing with Play-Doh. It was one of the rare times that I could be creative without getting messy – something that my OCD mind appreciated. Play-Doh offers such a sensory experience and gives us the chance to be as creative as we’d like to be. To this day, my dad still remains king of Play-Doh as one year, while holidaying, the weather turned really bad so we bought my sister some Play-Doh to keep her busy. My dad sat moulding the clay into tiny accessories for my sister’s Barbie. He made foods like hamburgers, hot dogs, a bottle for Barbie’s baby, and a cell phone – the detail was incredible!
Thankfully, for those of us who aren’t as artistically inclined as my dad, Play-Doh have developed a range of tools and accessories that take your Play-Doh session to an entirely new level. I am not talking about the old-school cookie cutters and rolling pin, I am talking about play sets that encourage your imagination to run wild. Axl has become a huge fan of these play sets, collecting new ones each time we visit the craft/toy aisle in Checkers, and has even started watching YouTube videos, to list which play set he wants next. (Hint-hint, Santa)
Most recently, Play-Doh introduced the Kitchen Creations range which includes 13 play sets that have a variety of tools to inspire storytelling, imaginative thinking, creative play and fun for our littles who love to help in the kitchen!

Much to my kid’s excitement, Hasbro kindly sent over the Play-Doh Cake Party play set, for us to host our own party! Of course, I wasn’t going to let him have all the fun, so I used the fun press drop as an excuse to spend the afternoon, baking some imaginative treats with my toddler.
So, here’s the thing – having the imagination of a 3-year old often means that a toy only holds his attention for about 20 minutes before he loses interest and goes off to play with some dirt. But for the first time, in the longest time, we found that the Play-Doh Cake Party play set not only kept our toddler busy, but managed to do so for an entire day! I mean, I was able to work without getting up a billion times to fetch some Hot Wheels, puzzles or games from the bedroom, for him.
The playset is so well thought out – from the confetti coloured Play-Doh, to the oven, decorative cutters, cake display, and the (really fun to use) swirly make-believe frosting, you will soon see why this is easily one of the most fun play sets that we’ve discovered in a really long time. Axl spent hours carefully decorating his cake, before moulding out tiny candles and acting as if it’s my birthday (I taught this kid well, only a few days ‘til my birthday and we’re already celebrating!). Personally, I love that we can purchase a fresh pack of Play-Doh and continue baking new and exciting cakes – a toy that continues to encourage creativity is a toy that we should all be choosing for our littles.
With Christmas in our sights, I can definitely see the Play-Doh Kitchen Creations range featuring at the top of some lists and for good reason too! The playsets will be available from Toys R Us, ToyZone, Toy Kingdom, Hamleys and other major retailers. You can also shop online for Play-Doh Kitchen Creations products at Takealot.com.
Play-Doh have kindly partnered with me to give my readers the chance to WIN a Play-Doh Sizzlin’ Stove Top from their new Kitchen Creations rage. To enter, simply follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter below.
The Play-Doh Sizzlin’ Stovetop makes real sizzling sounds as soon as the skillet or saucepan are placed on the burners. You can listen to how the sizzle gets louder when a Play-Doh creation is placed in one of the pans, almost like a real stove. To get to know more on what’s on the menu? You can use the Play-Doh stamps to create pretend steak and eggs, crazy burgers and even fish. Add some Play-Doh veggies with the half mould and use your tongs and spatula to flip and grab your creations before displaying them on the plates provided.
