As much as we need (and love) the rain, my kid may very well drive me dilly with his boredom. If you feel the same, I may be able to help! Hippo.co.za recently asked to collaborate, sharing some tips and ideas on ways to keep kids busy when it is raining, this winter.
Kids love arts and crafts! Whether it is making macaroni jewellery, turning fruit and veg into paint stamps, making wrapping paper for an upcoming special occasion or fabric painting, your child will love letting their creativity run wild, while making crafts. I’ve learnt to keep a craft box filled with fun supplies like glitter glue, colourful paper, ice-cream sticks and paints, hidden so that when the clouds roll in, we have a whole box of new things to discover and explore!
Build a fort and host a movie marathon
There is something nostalgic about building a pillow and blanket fort, cosying up and watching a marathon of movies. These days, no one has time to keep up with the latest movies, so why not dedicate a few hours to stuffing your face with popcorn and enjoying some time out with the kids. Not quite sure what to watch? The Winter 2017 Entertainment Guide has you covered with some of the season’s top choices, including a few of my own favourites!
When was the last time you played board games? Treat the kids to a fun game night with classics like Monopoly, Uno, Snakes and Ladders, and Charades. Why not up the ante with a friendly little competition like winner picks tonight’s movie.
Mould your imagination
Whenever I need a minute to catch my breath (and sneak a cup of coffee), I pull out the big guns: Play-Doh! Not only does Play-Doh provide a multi-sensory experience, it also keeps kids busy for hours as they mould, build and create through play.
Bake a cake and have a tea-party
Who needs an excuse to bake a cake, anyway? Let the kids help in the kitchen, with cracking eggs, mixing batter, licking spoons and decorating. You’ll be surprised by just how much pride they take in their own creations. If you have a sweet tooth, give them some icing, Marie Biscuits and sweets to decorate and create their own sweetie monsters, cars and treats. Perhaps host a little competition and act like you’re a judge on Master Chef.
DIY Spa Day
If you’re like me, you probably haven’t had the chance to visit a spa in a while, so why not bring the spa to you? Fill a shallow bucket with warm water, Epsom salts and aromatherapy oils for a relaxing foot soak, before letting the kids massage and put lotion on your feet. Better yet, let the kids make their own DIY face masks using banana and honey for a spa session of their own.
Now that you have the kids taken care of, it’s time to catch up on your never-ending to-do list. Lucky for you, Hippo.co.za makes things easier and can help provide you with all the quotes you need for Car Insurance. Now, you have more time to cosy up and binge watch your favourite series too!
