One of the very first products that I was introduced to from Dermalogica was their best-selling Microfoliant. The brand managed to create a product that was effective, innovative and easily one of the best products from their range. So imagine my surprise (and utter excitement) when Dermalogica announced their newest product, the Daily Superfoliant – a product that features everything we love about the classic Microfoliant, but with superhero properties to save your skin from aging caused by air pollution.
Why air pollution?
It’s no secret that research shows a link between exposure to air pollution and the early signs of skin ageing. Dermatologists have been identifying pollution as a skin concern for ages and believe that it can result in hyperpigmentation, fine dehydration lines, a weakened skin structure and increased sensitivity. With this information, Dermalogica went on to create the Daily Superfoliant which is comprised of ingredients that absorb pollutants and inhibit adhesion of pollution particles to help preserve the skin’s youthful structure, and offer exceptional resurfacing for softer, smoother skin.
The main ingredient that sets the Daily Superfoliant apart is the Activated Binchotan Charcoal Powder which is derived from Ubame Oak. This ingredient has the ability to attracts and bind itself to impurities in the skin, pulling them out of the pores. The microfine particles resurface the skin and draw out particulate matter, as well as excess sebum and other impurities. Impressively, the wonderous effects of the new Daily Superfoliant don’t just end after you’ve washed off the product. Nope, they also included ingredients like Red Algae and Tara Fruit Extract which help to preserve the natural barrier function of the skin by providing a non-occlusive molecular mesh that stops penetration and adherence of environmental pollutants.
How to use:
Much like the original Microfoliant, to use the product, you mix about half a teaspoon of Daily Superfoliant into your wet hands and create a creamy, foamy paste by rubbing your hands together. Apply to your face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Massage gently, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
While aging isn’t a skin concern right now, I have noticed a change in the texture and look of my skin, especially in the last year or two, which has prompted me using products that are great for preventing skin from aging. I know that aging is inevitable, but having great skin never goes out of fashion and I’d much rather adopt a healthy skin regime now, to prevent pigmentation, dark spots and fine lines which are quite pronounced in my family. When comparing the Micorfoliant and Daily Superfoliant, besides the obvious difference in color, the texture is a little rougher in the daily Superfoliant so if you have quite sensitive skin, it is recommended that you only use the Daily Superfoliant on alternate days, just until your skin acclimates.
The Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant is offered in a 75g bottle with a suggested retail price of R1 180.00 and will be available at authorized Dermalogica spas, salons and skin centers nationwide (find your nearest, here) and Dermalogica.co.za starting March 6, 2017.
