Body Positive: The 12-month Bucket List Challenge

body positive challenge - By Megan KellySo here’s a crazy idea, let’s do another year-long challenge while we’re still busy with #365BeautyTips. This year, I really wanted to learn to embrace the body that I have, instead of hating it in hopes of one day waking up and having the “perfect body.” I have been toying with this idea for a little while now and thought that why not challenge myself to a year-long journey of embracing self-love.

Truth is, just like many of you, I face quite a bit of obstacles when it comes to accepting my body. Many of which still hold me back from doing certain things, or even stop me from participating in what seems like could be a lot of fun. I recently pondered on the cliche that no one gets out alive and that very few people actually live due to the limitations that we put on ourselves. It saddened me to think that in my old age, I will most likely be sitting staring at my wrinkles and looking back on all the things in life that I never did because of my chubby thighs, rounded tummy and big boobs.

In the spirit of working on my own challenges, I thought that it would be fun to identify 12 things that I want to accomplish in the next year. These are things that I would usually avoid because I feel that I am too fat or always found myself saying that I would like to try it, but only after I have lost a certain amount of KGs or reached a certain size. I am making it a very public challenge in hopes of inspiring you to conquer your own fears, try new things and stop using your body as an excuse to miss out on life’s adventures.

The rules? Do at least one challenge a month and of course, blog what each challenge taught me about myself and what sort of experiences it has helped me overcome. Some things may seem pretty ridiculous but let’s be frank, I am pretty ridiculous and I make seemingly small things into really big things.

My 12 challenges…

  1. Wear boots in winter (I have chunky calves) (HERE)

  2. Go to gym (I am scared I will be the biggest girl there and will probably look ridiculous) (HERE, HERE and HERE)
  3. Wear a two-piece costume (and maybe do a bomb-drop and drown the city of PE)
  4. Attempt a boudoir photoshoot
  5. Try a yoga class (afraid I may pull a poep-string)
  6. Go a week without wearing makeup and still feel confident without it (HERE)
  7. Wear a crop top (heck, why not try a full body suit, too!)
  8. Participate in a 5km walk for charity (HERE)
  9. Rock a bodycon dress
  10. Be photographed while on holiday (I don’t have a single honeymoon photo of myself, because eew – my arms!)
  11. Go swimming without shorts (HERE)
  12. Wear a bold print. (HERE)

Seems simple right? Some of these challenges will be tougher than others but there’s no denying how excited I am to get started! I am also looking for a PE photographer who I can partner up with, to capture each of these 12 challenges to feature on the blog.
