The tenth week of #365BeautyTips has come to an end and as promised, I have put together a round-up post which puts all the beauty tips, shared this week, in one place. The idea is to share any extra information and answer the questions that you may have asked on my social media posts. Remember that if you want to stay up to date with my 365 days of beauty challenge, then follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
This week, I chose not to have a theme as I just wanted to share few odds and ends that I have been trying lately.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 71
When I mention the word ‘contouring’ I almost feel my own eyeballs rolling so far back that I fear they may never return. The Kardashians made the trend of contouring go viral and since then, we’ve seen some pretty bizarre interpretations of the trend, that range from contouring your boobs, clown contouring, strobing, baking, using spoons, forks and other cooking utensils, just to get that defined look. I find it all to be a bit overboard, but I won’t deny the power of contouring. I thought that I would show you how I define my own bone structure by using Catrice’s New Bronze Age Baked C01 Bronzer to lightly contour my face. It’s key to not over complicate it and use a brush to blend the bronzer in the hollows of your cheeks, the sides of your forehead, jawbone and nose – the places that the light won’t reflect off if you were to look directly up into the sun.

In case my recent post didn’t already tell you, I am currently LOVING the convenience of cream eyeshadows. They’re versatility in the way that you can just dab them on the eyelid for a pop of colour, or use it as a primer to build up other colours and make them appear more vibrant and last longer, but most of all, I enjoy high-pigment that they pack, even allowing you to apply it over the darkest eyeshadows, for a glamorous and eye-catching look. The Effects Eyeshadows dry almost instantly and last all day long, without fading or melting into your crease, making them a winner in the cream shadows category. I created 3 looks with this Effects Eyeshadow from Essence, which you can find here.

You may have seen earlier in the week that I mentioned this Coconut Body Oil which I was sent from Palmer’s. Admittedly, I am hung up on the brand and will probably never tire of the scent or incredible efforts they go through to bring quality ingredients to the consumer at incredible prices. I have been using the Coconut Oil Body Oil and cannot put into words how much I enjoy using this product. It’s only been two weeks but so far, so good! Unlike most body oils, it’s light and non-greasy, absorbing beautifully into the damp skin. My skin had been feeling dry and irritated lately, but with a little TLC from this ultra moisturizing and hydrating formula, my skin is feeling softer and looking healthier even with the cooler weather rolling in. Like most of Palmer’s products you can expect the long lasting scent of sweet coconuts. You will also be happy to know that the ingredients are natural and free of sulfates, mineral oils, parabens, phthalates, glutens and dyes. You can find Palmer’s at your local Clicks and Dis-Chem stores and the coconut body oil retails for R64.95.

I haven’t shared a Manicure Monday in what feels like AGES! But here’s a quick look at my nails of the day. I will admit that blue is not my usual colour (I prefer reds) but I just fell in love with the pastel gift set from Sorbet that I purchased in December, and thought that I would finally try the blue and really, what better day than a Monday? This is in the shade Ice is Nice and it may have changed my feelings towards blue, altogether.

So the secret is FINALLY out. Lately, everyone has been asking about the nude lipstick that I have been wearing in my recent makeup of the day photos. It’s a little gem that I found at the bottom of my makeup bag and just in case you hadn’t already noticed, it’s one that I keep reaching for… a lot. The 03- Come Naturally Lipstick from Essence is a beautifully pigmented finish with just a subtle hint of pink. The colour wears well throughout the day and doesn’t have that annoying waxy feeling. Instead, the pigment is a light moisturizing formula that’s colour can be built up to suit your look. This is definitely a must-have for anyone’s makeup bag whether you’re a makeup addict like me, or a beginner to makeup: everyone needs a complimenting nude lipstick and here’s your affordable variant.

I have been toying with the idea of whether to post my experience with the skincare range from Nimue or not. Finally, I have decided to go ahead with the posting merely because if it’s one thing that I have learnt (especially since starting to blog), it’s that we’re all completely different and while some of us may find the very best results with a range of skincare, others may have the complete opposite experience.
Nimue has created an app that asks a few questions to find out which of their ranges would suit your skin condition and suggests the products from the range that is best suited to your skin, according to your results. You’re also able to track your skincare journey through the app by taking progress shots and using their virtual diary to note any changes in your skin. This is a smart way to see what’s triggering the changes in your skin – is it hormonal, seasonal or stress induced? I have no doubt that what Nimue has created is innovative and a huge step in the future of targeting your skin problems with the right products. However, there are a few tweaks that need to be made in order for the app to work better – for instance, we should also consider things like pregnancy or breastfeeding which both affect your hormones, as well as any medications you may already be on.
I was sent a variety of products from their range and after just a few days, my skin was glowing. I had fallen in love with the sleek and professional look of Nimue’s range of products, the fast absorbing yet thick textures of their moisturizers and the effective way of using gauze instead of cotton balls. I am an even bigger fan of their sunscreen and especially like the subtle scents in all of their products.
However, by the third week, I started seeing that my skin was changing. Blind pimples, blackheads, and even scabbing started to cover my forehead, nose, hairline and jawline. I had kind of expected the reaction as it’s something I’ve grown quite prone to when using products with active ingredients – it’s a sort of transition phase. However, my transition phase lasted longer than usual and after an additional 2 weeks of waiting, my skin looking was still looking horrible, thereby digging a gaping hole into any confidence that remained and so, I gave up.
I hate that I gave up as I sort of wonder what if I stuck it out another few weeks. I am still using the moisturizer, sunscreen, and exfoliating enzyme on the regular basis and do have hopes of introducing the rest of the skincare products back into my usual regime, but perhaps only use the cleanser and Conditioner Lite twice a week, at first, and slowly increase my use of the products. Until then, I have been using a variety of spot treatments like Sudocrem and Young Solution to dry out the messy skin condition that I had going on. We’re almost there but still find that my pores are enlarged and need to continue treating the few spots that remain.

I will be honest, this week has been hectic! I haven’t had a moment to glance at my blog, let alone catch up on social media or any “blog stuff”. Axl has been ill, along with my anxiety playing up, not to mention work being bizarrely busy. I will admit that there have been a few times, this week, where I had wished I never started this challenge in the first place but then you go and leave a comment and warm my heart – so thank you! With all that’s been going on, I have reverted back to my ‘Relaxing’ oil from SOiL Organic Aromatherapy and Skincare. I found it especially useful for my late night baths when I am trying to unwind before bed and also liked using it yesterday when Axl had a sore tummy to gently massage his stomach. I love the gentle aroma of the mixed oils and find the blend to be calming and comforting when you most need it. As you probably know, you end up using such a little, so the 100ml bottle is still going strong. It also takes all the guess work out of trying to figure out which oils work well together and saves you money from buying the 15ml bottles of each oil to create a blend of your own.
And that is a wrap on the last 7 days. Whoop-Whoop! Remember that I love any feedback – what have you enjoyed seeing, what would you like to see more of and perhaps if you have any suggestions, questions or products you would like me to chat more about. I really enjoyed the themed days – what themes would you like to see next?
