I like Winter. There I said it. I love the cooler weather, hot chocolate, knitted wear, boots and not to mention the lovely plums, greys and crimson reds that fill the shelves of my makeup routine. But since having Axl, I found that the inevitable always happens around the annual season changes and my not so little baby gets a visit from the nasty flu bug. I have been fairly lucky that it’s never been anything too serious and most times it hasn’t lasted longer than 3 days, managed at home thanks to my list of handy products from Pedia Kids that help prevent and treat the flu.
Prevention is better than cure
Considering Axl only really gets sick once or twice a year, I would consider myself rather lucky especially as I know a few kids who are always haltered by a snotty nose or a chesty cough. Sure, Axl doesn’t attend playschool yet and he is still getting his virus-fighting breast milk, but we also ensure that he gets a healthy dose of vitamins. In the past, we’ve tried chewy vites which he really liked especially as he would take them every day, when his dad took his usual combination of psych meds, so would feel like a big boy. Unfortunately, this would turn into a tantrum of monstrous proportions when he would realize that his daily allowance of just two had come to an abrupt end.
We recently came across Pedia Kids Vita Pops which makes vitamin time, all the more alluring to a fussy toddler. With the option of orange, apple and cherry flavours, the only problem we seem to have is Axl settling on which flavour he wants today. We’ve realized that sucking on a Vita Pop lasts a lot longer than a chewy vitamin, so he tends to forget that there are more in the cupboard and we avoid the whole tantruming thing altogether. (Terrible-twos, I have a few choice words for you.)
Purity Pedia Kids Vita Pops contains a variety of vitamins essential for the healthy growth of your toddler. Vitamin A which encourages normal growth in children, good vision as well as healthy skin and hair. Vitamin E helps prevent damage to red blood cells and other cells. Vitamin C is needed for healthy tissues and for Iron metabolism, Vitamin B6 helps maintain a healthy blood and nervous system as well as helps the body absorb proteins. Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid work together to help prevent certain types of anaemia and are essential for the growth in children.
*Pedia Kids Vita Pops are only safe for children 2 years and older
On those days where lollipops aren’t for MR. Stubborn, we’ve continued with our prevention plan and tempt our unruly toddler with Pedia Kids Emulsion, a tasty combination of vitamins that help the body to absorb and make the most of even the pickiest eater’s food intake.
Purity Pedia Kids Emulsion contains a Vitamin A and Zinc known to boost and strengthen the immune system, which is what I am really wanting to do, with the season shift. Vitamin D, Calcium and Phosphorus helps maintain strong bones and teeth while Omega-3 Fatty Acids: EPA and DHA, benefit brain and eye and development and function.
*As with all of their products, Pedia Kids Emulsion is free from alcohol and tartrazine
** It is important to note that you do not need to give your kids more than one multi-vitamin product at a time
Stuffy nose getting you down?
There was nothing more frustrating (and scary) than the early days of Axl having a stuffy nose, shortly after bringing him home from the hospital. I remember the tears streaming down my face while trying to comfort Axl enough for him to stop crying long enough to attempt to feed. It was tough! New moms do not need to worry though, it’s completely normal for a baby to have a stuffy nose so soon after coming home, as this article points out, the fetus floats in amniotic fluid, and some of the fluid gets into their nasal passages during birth which may take a few days for it to be cleared. Even two years later, whenever Axl gets sick, it’s not the phlegm or a sore throat that upsets him, it’s that he is unable to drink with ease, and like most babies, he wants to feed for comfort when he is feeling lousy.
Rest assured, Pedia Kids have launched a nasal spray that’s not nearly as intimidating as some of the drops and sprays that I have been recommended. The best part is that the saline nasal spray is suitable for BABIES FROM BIRTH! The solution helps relieve symptoms of nasal congestion associated with common colds and hay fever. It also helps soothe dryness and is safe for daily use.
If your tot is aged 6 months or older, you can combine the nasal spray with the use of what I like to call, their hero product: Pedia Kids Vapour Gel. Products like Vicks Vapour Rub are so dangerous for kids under the age of 12, as it can cause more damage to their lungs. That’s why I trust Pedia Kids Vapour gel to clear blocked and stuffy noses, allowing Axl to have uninterrupted sleep and feed with ease. The gel also helps to relieve the usual muscle pains caused by flu, colds, bronchitis and sinusitis. Known for their cooling and soothing properties, Purity Pedia Kids Vapour Gel contains Menthol and Eucalyptus.
Sore throat? Have a lolly!
I remember having these as a kid, whenever I had a sore throat – do you? Pedia Kids have launched their very own throat pops which work like lozenges to help soothe sore throats. Again, these are only suitable for children who are 2 years or older. Their throat pops contain Zinc, which is known to help enhance the immune system and also contains menthol and eucalyptus, which works to cool and soothe.
*Pedia Kids throat pops are available in menthol cherry and are free from artificial colours and flavours
Stop the cough…
Last on my list of flu and cold fighters, is the Pedia Kids Natural Cough Syrup. Cough syrup is notoriously known to be packed with high percentages of caffeine and alcohol, hence your breath gets taken away from that first sip. I’ve never been comfortable giving them to Axl until I found this natural homeopathic alternative from Purity Pedia Kid’s lineup which is safe for babies FROM BIRTH. The honey flavoured syrup helps relieve coughing, without any drowsy effects.
Purity Pedia Kids cough syrup contains active ingredients including Kali Mur which is a biochemical tissue salt that helps remove excess mucous and phlegm from mucous membranes. It also contains Ferrum Phos which is the tissue salt normally used with the onset of inflammatory conditions like a sore throat or swelling and redness.
*Pedia Kids Natural Cough Syrup t is free from alcohol, caffeine and tartrazine.
**Please note that if the cough continues for a week despite treatment, do take your tot to a healthcare professional.
