The seventh week of #365BeautyTips has come to an end and as promised, I have put together a round-up post which puts all the beauty tips, shared this week, in one place. The idea is to share any extra information and answer the questions that you may have asked on my social media posts. Remember that if you want to stay up to date with my 365 days of beauty challenge, then follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 43
Continuing with the Valentine’s theme of last week, I wanted to share a fragrance. Coco Chanel said it best when she said, “A woman should wear perfume wherever she wants to be kissed.” I still haven’t found my signature fragrance but will continue enjoying playing around with new scents until I do. In the last year, I have come across two Yardley perfumes that were undeniably beautiful, feminine and flattering: Ballet and Precious Petals. I know that fragrance is a personal thing and thanks to a number of factors including hormones, a scent tends to smell different on each person, so it goes without saying that what I might like will differ to what you may like. Ballet, from Yardley, is a playful and elegant scent with warm notes and a dash of zest, it’s classic while still offering a playful side too.

Valentines isn’t all about hot dates, chocolates and red hearts. Agh, who am I kidding? Of course it’s about chocolate. But seriously, it’s also a time to remind ourselves to be kinder and love stronger not only our family and friends but ourselves too. My treat, to myself, is in the form of a bath. After work at around 11 pm, I put the kiddo in his bed, hubby is usually already asleep, so I do the dishes and then run a hot bath. My favourite part is applying a sheet mask and soaking up the quiet time, before heading to bed and starting the day all over again. I have gone back to Skin Republic masks, they’re quite affordable, available from Dis-Chem and boast a crazy huge selection of products. At the moment, I am crushing on their collagen infused sheet masks which helps improve elasticity, smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and leaves you with younger looking skin. The best thing about Skin Republic’s masks is the amount of product packed in, in fact – there is more product than sheet mask. They’re never stingy with the incredibly hydrating formula, that locks in moisture and leaves you looking and feeling fresh!

The last 2 weeks had been tough! I was going through my usual signs of depression and had lost complete interest in writing. I had hundreds of ideas floating around in my head but the words just would not flow. I was over emotional and taking everything personally. Usually, I would just disconnect, but I really didn’t want to as I had made this commitment to post daily for #365BeautyTips. So I did. But I stayed away from selfies or makeup of the day posts. Finally, I came around and found a refreshed sense of inspiration. For Valentines Day, we didn’t really have plans, I made us an awesome breakfast (if I do say so myself) and for the rest of the day, we just enjoyed relaxing at home. I did end up doing my makeup as we ended up popping out, for a drive and ice-cream. My quick makeup routine at the moment is this gentle smokey eye, a swipe of mascara and a bright lip. In the post, I really wanted to showcase this particular mascara from Essence, but I have been so blown away that I think it deserves a post of its own. (keep an eye out for a full review soon!)

Valentines had come and gone, so it was back to work as usual. Despite the harsh heat we’ve experienced this summer, Autumn gave us a little teaser of what we can expect and the cooler weather had me craving for warm knits, boots, hot chocolate and, of course, the grays, plums and reds that take over my makeup dresser. Essence sent over some of their winter gems and I am loving this gray in 53- Rock My World. It’s really dark, similar to a gun metal gray. I paired the polish with their Triple Care polish as a base (featured here) and Gosh Cosmetics’ Gel Look Top Coat which plumps the polish and increases the longevity (featured here).

Usually, when a product gets this much hype, it leaves me sorely disappointed. Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing water is rather new to my skin care routine but has had the beauty community buzzing since it first launched in SA. It’s known to be a non-rinse, soap-free cleanser, originating in France, and packs a variety of skin benefits which includes removing your makeup with a swipe of a cotton pad, helps clear irritated skin, leaves your skin feeling hydrated and possibly the best part? It’s suitable for all skin types as it does not include soap, alcohol or any harsh chemicals. I also found that it simplifies the night time schlep of having to remove makeup, cleanse the skin and moisturise. Garnier’s variant is exceptionally affordable when compared to other brands on the market, and I believe has 200 uses in 1 bottle. You can find them at Clicks.
While on the topic of skincare, I wanted to address something. This week, I have had a few readers mention on my Facebook page that a certain skincare product that worked for me, didn’t work for them. As Sarah pointed out, it’s kind of like saying that my shade of foundation didn’t match you skin tone. As with most skincare, you would usually go through a transition phase, where your pores start clearing the build-up out, pushing the dirt to the surface, sometimes resulting in a breakout. Yes, it’s our first instinct to discontinue use of a product, but it’s is completely normal and with perseverance, your face will clear. Also, not everyone’s skin will react to a product the same way mine did. Our skin types all differs and some skins are more sensitive than other. Generally speaking, you should give a new skincare product a 6-8 week trial, to allow it to completely adjust to the product. If you’re ever in doubt about skincare, I strongly suggest you check out Sarah’s blog, Mascara and Mimosas.

Oh man, I love eyeshadow. I recently shared a bit of my eyeshadow collection on Snapchat, but in short – I have a serious problem and can never say no to another palette. I’ve shared a few looks on Instagram and the response is always how do I get high pigment from budget-friendly products. If you’re looking to make a statement with your eye makeup, then start trying eyeshadow primers. I know just how frustrating it can be when your eyeshadow settles into the creases of your lids, or when you have a beautiful eyeshadow that doesn’t apply as pigmented as you wish. Catrice Prime and Fine Eyeshadow Base helps prepare your eyelids to enhance the colour and luminosity of the eyeshadow, helps the colour last longer and prevents it from creasing. In other words, she’s a winner!

I always struggle to keep my manicures neat and tidy. In fact, when I try some new trendy nail art, my whole hand becomes a piece of Picasso. Despite fancy tools, special polishes and life hacks, nothing really works better than a good ol’ soak in the tub. I like planning out my manicure, allowing enough time to paint my nails, let them dry and then clean them up. I start by embracing my messy painting skills, making sure to cover the whole nail (fingers and all) and then once my polish is completely dry, I soak my hands in warm water or just use it as an excuse to enjoy a bath. Using a gentle face cloth, I carefully clean around the nails, revealing the perfect manicure every time.
And that is a wrap on the last 7 days. Whoop-Whoop! Remember that I love any feedback – what have you enjoyed seeing, what would you like to see more of and perhaps if you have any suggestions, questions or products you would like me to chat more about. I really enjoyed the themed days – what themes would you like to see next?
