The sixth week of #365BeautyTips has come to an end and as promised, I have put together a round-up post which puts all the beauty tips, shared this week, in one place. The idea is to share any extra information and answer the questions that you may have asked on my social media posts. Remember that if you want to stay up to date with my 365 days of beauty challenge, then follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
This week’s theme is VALENTINE’S DAY!
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 36
This concealer pen from Essence has become one of the handiest tools in my makeup bag. The sculpted point allows me to dab concealer under my eyes, highlight my brow bone and the bridge of my nose, and even tidy up my red lipstick with the greatest of ease. I am horrible at keeping my lipstick lines neat and tidy so by the time I have covered my lips and attempted to smooth out the line, I have pretty much messed lipstick just about everywhere else on my face, too. With the Pure Nude concealer pen clean up is a breeze and I just draw a light line of concealer above my lip and blend it in, using a lipstick brush, small eyeliner brush or even a thin paint brush. I am interested to see how dark their darkest shade is, as I think these would be great for a beginner’s guide to contouring especially for smaller areas like around the nose.

By now, you’ve probably realized how much I love a good matte lip but getting the perfect velvet smooth application is not all about the lipstick formula and more about how you prep your lips. Get your lips lusciously smooth just in time for Valentine smooches with a gentle lip exfoliator. There are a few brands who already offer awesome lip exfoliators (Hey Gorgeous, LUSH and Darling Jane) but if you’re more of the DIY type of girl, then mix a little sugar (about 1,5tsp) with a touch of coconut oil (about 1tsp). Gently rub the mixture on your lips, to help exfoliate and remove any dry skin. The coconut oil helps soften the dry skin and allows the sugar to gently remove it, the oil also hydrates the lips and leaves them feeling nourished and smooth. If you like, you could add a drop of peppermint oil to the mixture, which will create a light and natural plumping effect. I store my lip exfoliator in the fridge and use it 2-3 times a week.

It’s time to get your brows date-night ready! I do my own brows and offer my services to friends and family in exchange for a KFC Krusher. My sister-in-law used to have her brows done at a spa until I started reshaping them for her but a few weeks ago I wasn’t available and she decided to pop into a spa. While visiting over the weekend, she asked if it were possible to come back for me to fix them. The trick is to never over-tweeze, take it one hair at a time, sit in a well-lit area or even outside at midday, and be patient, take your time. Although I have become quite used to the pinch that accompanies waxing but my sister-in-law has really sensitive skin which becomes swollen and blotchy. I found the perfect remedy – Teething Gel! Apply some teething gel around your brow and wait 2 or 3 minutes before wiping it all off, then continue your usual brow-grooming routine without any pain. Ta-Da! Most of my social media profiles were buzzing after sharing this tip and a few of you mentioned having tried it and it really working, I am so glad! You can also use teething gel on itchy bites and they’ll stop itching.

Valentine’s Day calls for red nails and what an opportunity to share my utmost favourite shade of red from Rimmel’s Salon Pro range – 391 Celebrity Bash. This colour is rather vampy and just gives me the idea of a classy woman from the 50’s. The formula owns my heart as it is long lasting, applies smoothly and the brush is thick enough to cover a nail in two or three quick swipes. I really must try a few more shades from this range as this one is a real winner!
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 40
Many of you had mentioned that my last eyeliner tutorial requires a lot of practice and while this is probably true, there are a few hacks that you can try where you need very little skill, if any at all. For this particular tutorial, I used the black eyeshadow from Signature Cosmetics NAKED palette and used a small eyeshadow brush.

I am super-duper excited (and proud) of my very first article on Tums 2 Tots, which makes it official… I have my own beauty column called ‘Mom’s Moments with Megan Kelly.” This month’s article was tailored to the mom who never has enough time especially not enough time for a full face of makeup, ahead of a Valentine’s Date. Let’s be real, on the odd occasion that us moms do go out, we’re too busy running around getting dinner ready, PJs set up and leaving instructions for the babysitter, that we forget to even dab on a bit of concealer. I have mastered the 10 minute routine and on my good days, I can get it down to a quick 7 minutes. Take a look at my tutorial with pictures and a list of products that I reccommend.

If you’re not one for a bold lip and prefer a sheer opaque finish, then these lippies from Essence are for you. The Sheer and Shine range packs the slightest scent of Vanilla with a subtle pop of colour. At first, I thought these were tinted lip balms but have realized that they are the perfect lipstick for everyday or just running to the shop sort-of-makeup-looks (perhaps staying at home for Netflix and pizza on Valentines Day!) They offer a burst of colour and with a little work, you can build up the pigment to have luscious lips with just the right amount of shine. As always, Essence’s products are exceptionally affordable which means you can have one of these in every handbag so that even when you least expect it, you can have kissable lips.
And that is a wrap on the last 7 days. Whoop-Whoop! Remember that I love any feedback – what have you enjoyed seeing, what would you like to see more of and perhaps if you have any suggestions, questions or products you would like me to chat more about. Keep an eye on the next few days as we wrap up our tips for Valentine’s Day!
