11 Feb #365BEAUTYTIPS: Day 29 – 35
The fifth week of #365BeautyTips has come to an end and as promised, I have put together a round-up post which puts all the beauty tips, shared this week, in one place. The idea is to share any extra information and answer the questions that you may have asked on my social-media posts. Remember that if you want to stay up to date with my 365 days of beauty challenge, then follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 29
I hardly ever leave the house without a swipe of mascara and boast quite the collection of wands and formulas that promise long voluminous lashes – but I am yet to find one that becomes my safe go-to. Gosh Cosmetics has welcomed a new addition to their Boombastic range, this time introducing their new Boombastic XXL Swirl Volume Mascara. The wand is phenomenal with its unique giant swirled rubber bristles at the tip, being sure to grab even the smallest lashes. The ingredients might just make your heart skip a beat, with its infused argan oil and bamboo extract that improves lash volume and vitality while repairing any damage, making your lashes stronger, nourished and encouraging lash regeneration.

In case my love for matte lipsticks wasn’t already obvious, I thought I would share another new launch and this time from INGLOT. Their matte selection includes a whopping 22 shades! I clearly need them all. The formula contains vitamin E, macadamia oil, and avocado oil to moisturize and nourish lips. These beauts promise the ideal matte finish, offering high pigment and a velvet smooth application. INGLOT says that the secret to the perfect matte lipstick application is Healthy lips and suggests trying INGLOT’s Lip Defence Treatment, a nourishing lip balm that will restore any lost moisture and ensures smooth application for better lipstick wear. It’s also important to note that INGLOT does not test on animals and their lipsticks are paraben free.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 31
I really just wanted to take the time and say, “GUYS, I MADE IT THROUGH AN ENTIRE MONTH!” Let’s celebrate! When I first thought to take my beauty challenge, I never expected it to be this trying. There are days where I don’t feel like writing and what I thought would just be a quick tidbit has really become a micro-blog of sorts. However, whenever I feel the urge to skip a day, I just keep saying, “one more day… just try one more day!” When you tell me that you liked a certain tip, ask for more or make suggestions – it fuels me to write more. I have spent the last few days trying to map out the coming weeks so that our #365BeautyTips is more structured and offers you the best sort of content, balancing new launches, tips, tricks, tutorials and whatever else I deem sharable. Another exciting announcement is that this year will see me exploring my writing outside of my blog, for publications that are both targeted at moms who are looking to up their beauty game. You will be seeing a familiar face in my own column for Tums2Tots magazine called ‘Mom’s Moments By Megan Kelly’ and will also continue featuring new articles on a monthly basis for Parenting Hub. In addition to all of that, I have also started writing blog posts for the company that I work for, which is more targeted at the professional world of sales and marketing (my other passion!), if you want me to share some of those, let me know?

Another exciting offering from Gosh Cosmetics is there new nail care selection to keep your nails in great condition and always looking best. The range includes Fast Dry Drops, Nail & Cuticle Oil, Gel Look Top Coat and 2-in-1 Nail Hardener with Glossy Finish. I have been using the Gel look Top Coat and love how quickly the formula dries, not to mention how smooth and “puffy” my nails seem. I have also noticed that my usual nail polishes are lasting longer and remain chip free. Could this be your next must-have? I most definitely think so! Since receiving the top coar, I haven’t gone a manicure without using it as it really does plump the nail and leave them looking like a picture straight from a glossy magazine.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 33
I was working on my upcoming post for Tums2Tots when I decided to share this snap. I hardly ever wear pink lipstick but when I do, it’s Catrice’s limited edition C02 Pink Mattrix from their Illumination range. Like majority of their lipsticks, the pigment pay-off is absolutely phenomenal! But what truly stood out in this range was the luxury packaging that their products were dressed in.

So here’s a quick tip: stock up on baking soda. It’s one of those items that we tend to overlook and have shoved at the back of our baking cupboard, meanwhile I have lost count of the amount of uses it actually has. Just this week, I have used it in my usual facial routine to treat and remove blackheads, while gently exfoliating the skin, cleaning the kitchen sink, bath, oven and microwave, soothing my tired feet in a soak and it helped remove a shard of glass from my toe. I happened to search Pinterest and stumbled across this list of uses which I thought I would share, and in case you were wondering, you can find these sachets in the baking aisle for about R3.95 at your local Spar or Checkers.

I often get asked about the trick to geting my winged eyeliner look. Honestly, it’s taken quite a bit of practice and finding the right combination of products to master it. I am very specific with certain things, even something as simple as the thickness of my pen will effect the overall neatness of my hadnwriting, so when it comes to eyeliner, I have learnt what works for me and what doesn’t. Remember that I have been doing my own winged eyeliner almost every single day since 2009, when I was in grade 9 and started attending a private school that allowed casual wear and makeup. I learnt that resting your elbow on a elevated box to be at the same level as your eye helps with stability and prevents crooked lines, also your breathing may affect the accuracy, so take a deep breath in before putting “ink to eye.” If you mess up, don’t worry, use a cotton bud with a little Elizabeth Anne’s orignal baby shampoo to gently remove the smudged lines without causing any damage to the sensitive skin around your eyes.
And that is a wrap on the last 7 days. Whoop-Whoop! Remember that I love any feedback – what have you enjoyed seeing, what would you like to see more of and perhaps if you have any suggestions, questions or products you would like me to chat more about. Keep an eye on the next week for hot tips for Valentine’s Day!
