04 Feb #365BeautyTips: Day 22 – 28
The fourth week of #365BeautyTips has come to an end and as promised, I have put together a round-up post which puts all the beauty tips, shared this week, in one place. The idea is to share any extra information and answer the questions that you may have asked on my social-media posts. Remember that if you want to stay up to date with my 365 days of beauty challenge, then follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 22
Continuing my theme from last week, I really wanted to feature my all-time favourite budget buy. Since grade 9, which is when I started at a college that allowed me to wear casual clothes and makeup, I have been working on my eyeliner game. I love eyeliner, always have and always will. In recent years, I have realized that there are makeup looks that don’t always need eyeliner but for the most part, whenever I am attending launches, special events or date night with my hubby, I opt for my favourite liquid eyeliner pen. I have tried just about every single one, from the really thick felt-tip pens to the ultra-delicate fine-point pens, all of which vary in price. I am known to never skip on the opportunity of browsing my local Chinese stores and strongly suggest that you do it too, as you never know when you’ll stumble across a gem like this. My eyeliner costs me R15 a pop, it offers a strong line of fluid that dries almost instantly so that you don’t have to worry about sneezing and having it go everywhere. I have been loyally buying this over and over again for the last 3 or 4 years, always worried that one day my local store will stop importing it. I can’t pronounce the name and can’t guarantee that it will be available anywhere else, but I strongly suggest taking a look at your own local stores – I have found such great products including one of the best gel eyebrow kits, ever!

Blush is relatively new to my beauty routine. I’d ignore the entire step, for fear of looking like one of those really badly made dolls. However, I ordered a few cream blushes on a whim and it’s been love ever since. They’re especially great for creating natural dewy cheek, with a subtle glow. Admittedly, the colour can be a little intimidating at first, and the consistency is very much like a lip balm so when you first apply it to the apples of your cheeks, you should expect incredible pigment. Don’t worry, though, as the formula warms to your cheeks, it settles nicely to a natural flushed colour, that leaves your entire face looking bright and fresh.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 24
I haven’t tried any of the Lipidol facial care products yet (they’re on my list though). However, I have tried a few of their body care products and have been seriously impressed thus far. From the same people who bring you Bio-Oil, Lipidol is proving to be one of the best oil care ranges on the market, and with their clean and eye-catching packaging, not to mention the affordable pricing, it isn’t any wonder why these are on the top of most blogger’s lists of favourites. This specific product is their suntan oil, which I was sent toward the end of last year. During summer, our skin tends to dry easily due to harsh weather conditions, sweating, dehydration and even swimming, that’s why I opt for an oil to nourish my skin. Their suntan oil not only restores moisture but also provides protection from UVA and UVB with SPF 20.

When it comes to painting my toes, I generally opt for pinks and reds. However, last year I bought a few of Woolworth’s nail polishes. I really liked the pastel yellow (shade: Sun Kissed) and thought it reminded me of daisies but wasn’t really sure if it’d look good on my usually crimson toes. Eventually after much deliberation, I just went for it and do you know what happened? Darren laughed. He had no reason to laugh but just said the yellow was funny. Well, I didn’t really care as I kind-of-sort-of like the bright colour and think it would look even better after a spray tan.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 26
I often feel guilty for not reading nearly as much as most people seem to, but between studying, working, writing, being mom and wife, I just don’t find the time to read anymore. Well, that’s about to change. I have long been fond of the beauty that is Dita Von Teese, who is famously known for the art of burlesque, red lips, pale white skin and her 17-inch waist. I recently watched a bunch of YouTube videos featuring some of her beauty tips and then realized it was to promote her beauty guide, so instead of wishing and waiting, I got the e-book, and put it on my phone’s Kindle reader so that every time I find myself scrolling through social media posts, I can rather use the time to read. What makes this book so much better than every other beauty manual on the market? It breaks all the rules that we’ve so long been forced to abide by and instead encourages you to express yourself and redefine what glamour means to you. Her book is written in such a way, that it almost feels like you’re having a glass of wine and listening to her share her stories, in person. She opens up and shares her stories, tips and more about eccentric glamour. What I love the most is that her book isn’t a gimmick to make you buy from her own line of cosmetics, in fact, most of the book suggest DIY beauty, natural alternatives and budget buys. Unlike most, she does her own makeup, colours her hair with $10 box dye and grooms her own brows – that’s the sort of beauty guru that I want tips from!

It could very easily be the inspiration that I found in Dita’s book which saw me wearing red lips just about every day of the week. Or it could be the lovely package that arrived from Gosh Cosmetics, either way, I am crazy about matte lipstick – especially in red! Gosh Cosmetics has launched a new collection of 8 matte shades that will be added to their pre-existing Velvet Touch range. The new matte options include a shade for everybody, from gentle nudes to bold plums and of course, fierce reds! The new creamy texture boasts a long lasting result with intense matte pigment. These retail for R125 and are available from Edgars.

Finding the right foundation is the thing that nightmares are made of. Luckily, I not only found one but happened to stumble upon three foundations that have impressed me beyond any high-end brand that I have tried. Catrice’s range of foundations offer a variety of shades, formulas, coverage and longevity, but that isn’t even the best part yet because they also offer incredible affordability. Want to know more about the foundation face-off? Take a look at the full review of these three.
And that is a wrap on the last 7 days. Whoop-Whoop! Remember that I love any feedback – what have you enjoyed seeing, what would you like to see more of and perhaps if you have any suggestions, questions or products you would like me to chat more about.
