18 Jan #365BeautyTips: Day 8-14
The second week of #365BeautyTips has come to an end and as promised, I have put together a round-up post which puts all the beauty tips, shared this week, in one place. The idea is to share any extra information and answer the questions that you may have asked on my social-media posts. Remember that if you want to stay up to date with my 365 days of beauty challenge, then follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 8
My mom is notoriously known for burning in the beginning of summer, to get ahead of her tan-game for the rest of the season. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I am not really a fan of suntan lotion, myself. But with all the recent studies and evidence, we really need to start taking better care of our skin and setting an example for our kiddos. I recently came across Caribbean Tan’s ‘protection in a can’ which is available in SPF 15 and SPF 30 variants. The aerosol-can promises convenience in a transparent spray, without leaving you looking or feeling like a grease ball. The spray doesn’t only provide sun protection, but also boats a special ingredient which works to tan your skin faster.

Readers asked which is my go-to lippy, that offers high pigment while promising longevity. I’ve reviewed the Catrice ‘Lip Smoothing Polish‘ before, and even after all this time, I still keep going back to it. In fact, it’s also my secret to a long lasting red lip. As a recap, the 3-in-1 formula offers the pigment of a lipstick, the shine of lipgloss and the longevity of a stain. It boasts 8 hour coverage, but I have often found myself having to scrub it off, the following morning. The best way to describe the how this lip colour wears is by mentioning the stain from after you’ve eaten sherbet. Unlike other long lasting formulas, this one does not dry out the lips, peel or fade throughout the day. It kind of just absorbs into your lips, leaving you with naturally flushed lips.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 10
On this particular day, I was suffering with a sleep deprivation headache and had spent most of the day curled up, watching Nurse Jackie. Headaches are nothing new to me and in high-school I was put on medication and scheduled to see a physio, once a week, in hopes of relieving the debilitating migraines caused from tension. In recent years, I don’t get them nearly as often, but I have found that whether just from sleep deprivation or a full-blown migraine from stress, a little bit of coolness on the forehead, does me wonders. Darren recently picked up this eye mask from Checker’s in-house brand called Big Apple for only R45. The mask is popped into the fridge and can be reused whenever you need to depuff those bags under your eyes or help relieve any sort of head pain. I liked that this one had an adjustable strap, so that I can make it tighter to relieve any pressure.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 11
I don’t go crazy with my nails or try funky nail art – my OCD doesn’t allow for any creativeness because I am so particular and would need everything to match the opposite hand. But I do love nailpolish and this mani-Monday inspired a mini-series of sharing my nailpolish for the week, something you can look forward to seeing more of. I really love this shade in 174-Purple Sugar, it’s such a happy shade and looks especially gorgeous on short nails. But the real gem of this duo is the new triple care nail polish which has been phenomenal at repairing and restoring strength, in my nails, especially after wearing super-glue stickons right through the festive season. I am so used to my nails just flaking away, after a week of fake-nails, that I tend to avoid it altogether but this formula somehow managed to protect my natural nails and has allowed them to grow like never before.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 12
RapidLash is like my good bra. I have relied on the lash strengthening formula for the last year, to help maintain the strength, volume and length of my natural lashes. My attitude is that I would much rather use a lash serum to improve my natural lashes than use false lashes or extensions that look good for a week or so, before causing hazardous damage to my lash line. Recently, I may have over-waxed my right brow a bit, which caused a varying difference in shape to the other. The devastating result prompted me to pull out my trusty tube of RapidLash and after only 2 weeks, I have grown my brows back to a point that I can start reshaping and reworking them. Also, with consistent use of the formula, I no longer need to worry about my brows being too sparse on makeup-free days, as my natural brows have thickened and are looking more fierce than ever.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 13
Hair oil is very quickly becoming everyone’s favourite product to maintaining shiny, healthy looking hair. I’ve only ever used the Inoar Argan Oil, but let’s be honest – it’s not readily available at your local Clicks and I imagine it to pack quite the punch to your wallet. Dove recently sent over their Pure Care Dry Oil which I have been dying to try, ever since it first made it’s debut, but I had been waiting to finish my current hair oil before making the purchase. This dry oil works wonderfully and I especially like the results when scrunched into wet hair, as when my hair dries, it remains frizz free. The unique formula is proven to absorb quickly into the hair follicle, penetrating and nourishing it both internally and externally. The deep and rapid absorption leaves hair looking radiantly shiny and silky smooth. I was a little upset that the bottle had somehow come open and leaked more than half of its precious liquid gold, but for R179.99 (100ml) I am relieved that it won’t cost me an arm and leg to maintain healthy looking locks. Also, the bottle will last you a few good months, even with consistent use, as you will only use a very little to avoid looking like a grease ball.
#365BEAUTYTIPS – DAY: 14
I had just collected my prize from Pretty Please Charlie and decided that the beauty of my new Veaudry myStyler Colossal would have to hijack the limelight, to show off those pretty Sapphire Pink plates. I hadn’t used it yet but have heard such raving reviews about Veaudry’s products, that I was ecstatic to have won my own styler and a limited edition one, no less. The myStyler boasts the use of natural Tourmaline Technology that ensures the protection and natural smooth finish with every style. The idea is that unlike other stylers, your hair will maintain its natural moisture and shine through the use of the semi-precious crystal, Tourmaline. I will have a full review up with a little more use as I like giving an extensive review on big ticket items, like these. Get yours here.
And that is a wrap on the last 7 days. Whoop-Whoop! When I created this challenge, I didn’t really realize that it would mean that I would micro-blog everyday, for an entire year, but I am glad that I did. This challenge has helped me remain consistent and with time, will take shape to bring you themed content.
I would love any feedback – what have you enjoyed seeing, what would you like to see more of and perhaps if you have any suggestions, questions or products you would like me to chat more about.
