When I started my blog, I had no idea how much I would love it. I also did not anticipate that I would be inspired to share so much more than just the odd beauty tip or review and thus, I landed up with a name that I thought with be obvious and easy to remember. But now, blogging has become so much more to me and I have come to realize how confiding that name can be and that my blog has grown to cover a lot more topics than just beauty and baby. In fact, in the last year, some of my most popular posts were following my journey with health and fitness and even the odd lifestyle feature.
For the last few months, I have been playing with the crazy idea of rebranding my blog and this last week saw me sharing my thoughts on the topic with Snapchat. I wanted to get some feedback from you and it was abundantly obvious that we all agree that in order for my blog to grow as a brand and be much more than just a blog, I would need to take a leap of faith and go for it.
Ultimately, I have a huge dream to one day be the owner of my own line (I don’t want to say what it is yet because I don’t want to jinx it) but whether it’s sporting apparel or handbags, the name “Beauty and The Baby Blog” wouldn’t suit any range. Again, I went to Snapchat to hear your thoughts, knowing that I wanted to include my name in the rebranding, somehow.
When I was a little girl, I hated my name. I remember my mom brushing my hair one evening, when I started getting overemotional and asking her why she couldn’t have named me something beautiful like “Moon”or “Sun” and that Megan Kelly was such an ordinary name. But once I had turned 4, I realized that my name was here to stay and that I rather kind of liked it. I didn’t yet know that “Megan” meant pearl and that a pearl was a natural gemstone of true beauty. So, about that beautiful name mom – thanks!
Growing up, I had never really understood kids and wanting to hide their second name from each other, like it was a secret society. Even as adults, my sister-in-law’s try to keep their second names a secret. How odd? As a kid, when someone asked my name, I would very proudly tell them that it’s “Megan Kelly Hardcastle,” which is evident in all my drawings, paintings and essays from school. “Kelly” means warrior or fighter and if you knew me well enough, you would know just how fitting that name truly is.
But due to websites already being registered with my name, I asked Snapchat for some ideas and it was the lovely Jane from GIJane, who suggested a few variants but one stood out and keeping my big dream in mind, I figured it would be perfect.
And so without further ado, what you’ve really come here to read is that…
In the next week or so, you will notice a few changes around here and especially on my social media pages, as I gear up to move my blog over to “By Megan Kelly” a blog that will cover beauty, parenting, lifestyle and all that’s in between. A new blog means a fresh new design, new content and a new adventure, which I have already started to work on. I am hoping to go live within the next week (or two).
So that’s it! I hope that you will take my hand and come along with me on this new journey. I am so excited to start this project with renewed motivation and excitement.
*Please note that I will not be posting any new content over here, while I make the adjustment, but will continue with my #365BeautyTips on my social media-pages.
