I recently shared some of my must-haves from Essence’ spring/summer launches and was lucky enough to be sent a few of their products, for reviewing. I thought that I would put together a quick post of first impressions and swatches, giving you a better idea of what you can expect. I stand by my word that these are hot items and definitely a must for summer!
Liquid lipstick has been hitting the shelves of many big brands in the cosmetic industry, but they’re usually accompanied by a hefty price tag. Personally, I like a brand that can combine quality and affordability, the way that Essence does, as I am more likely to look at products that I can afford to have more than just one of. After all, if I really like the product, I usually want it in every colour and variant. Liquid lipstick is growing in popularity as it unites the best of two lip pros by combining the coverage of a lipstick with the shine of a gloss.
This shade in “Show Off” is a bright corally colour that will suit just about any complexion. Although very glossy, the colour is vibrant and full of pigment. You could dab it with some tissue, if you’d like a more sheer look, which is just as lovely. The formula isn’t as sticky or thick as I had expected and wears well. I am also a big fan of the packaging which is super cute and shows off the combination of lipgloss and lipstick with a practical applicator, and bright matching lids.
Essence has launched a variety of eyeshadow palettes that pack 9 shades of pretty. I recently received the palette in “All about.. Roses”. The shades include light pastel pinks, a shimmery lilac, cool-toned nudes and 2 darker browns, which are great for defining your lids. The shades that have a light shimmer are creamy and really pleasant to work with, while one or two of the matte shades are a little more chalky but still smooth enough for an easy blend. This palette is a must-have for any spring-day look and is exceptionally versatile: you can create pretty, feminine looks, or rich smokey eyes for a more edgier feel. My personal favourite is the second shade at the top, which is a delicate and creamy blend of lilac, with just enough shimmer to be easily worn everyday.
I have used this palette in a number of my Instagram “Face of The Day” looks but was looking for a little more inspiration, so created a Pinterest board with some looks that you could recreate with this palette. Would you like to see a tutorial?
Smokey 2-in-1 Khôl Liner
I have never really taken to these sorts of khôl liners as they can become quite messy, especially if you don’t know how to use them. However, I do love the pigmentation of this particular one from Essence. The khôl liner unites two benefits in one product: it is as smooth and easy to apply as a khôl kajal, and at the same time is as highly pigmented and accurate as eyeliner. I have only tried using this once or twice, so am still not that confident in sharing some looks – but I promise to do so, soon! You can look forward to an epically soft khôl liner which blends effortlessly to create a gorgeous smokey eye. The formula lasts well throughout the day and the absolute best part is that the conic shape of the tip means that there is no need to sharpen it… ever!
That wraps up the products that I have (so far) but December is approaching which means lots of trips to the shops, and loads of opportunity for me to pick up some more gems from this range. Which do you like the most?
