23 Jul Review: Slim Jeggings
Let’s talk jeans. Do you remember that last year was the first year that I bought a pair of denims? It was a real stand-out moment for me, as I hadn’t worn jeans for years due to my own issues with my body and thinking that this booty can’t possibly fit into that. Anyhoo, despite my single pair of jeans growing into a full collection in a very short time, I still despise the texture of denim against my skin (except my denim jacket – because that is just BEAUTIFUL!) so when I spotted Slim Jeggings and saw that they’re available in South Africa, well… it was love at first site.
The term “jeggings” has become a coined, in the fashion industry. The whole idea of skin-tight leggings that give the impression of jeans is all the rage and every brand is trying their hardest to recreate, what the original Slim Jeggings managed to deliver. Slim Jeggings is essentially the ultimate 3-in-1 staple that every lady needs in her wardrobe. They offer the comfort of leggings, the look of denims and the convenience of spanx!
You have the choice of three colours: grey, black and blue. Personally, I love the black and blue pair – but the grey, just isn’t for me. This has nothing to do with Slim Jeggings, but just that I tend to be finicky with gray denims, and often find them to be too light, making my chunky thighs look larger than life. They have real pockets on the back which don’t hold a whole lot, but do give the impression of real denims and a little feature that I haven’t seen on knock-offs. Slim Jeggings are available in 3 sizes; S/M (8-12) ; L / XL (14-16) and XXL / XXXL (18-22). I ordered the largest size option, even though I am smaller, but know from experience with other leggings that I should opt for this sizing option.
A little side note: When I requested the largest size, I had a giggle when she went, “ohh, that’s interesting, you don’t look big in your photos.” I don’t often take full body pics because
1. I don’t have someone to take photos of me and my husband is horrible with the camera
2. I am not comfortable with my lower half but I am working on overcoming my insecurities
Okay… I am back. I also found that the inner lining of the jeggings were sooo soft! It kind of reminded me of uggs, you know? The lining meant that I didn’t get that irritating itch that comes with leggings, but at the same time, I found them to be very breathable.
I guess the big questions is, why would you pick Slim Jeggings, over any other denims on the market? To me, the selling point is that it promises to flatten and sculpt your body whereas most denims make me look and feel frumpy. I didn’t feel them to be as thick or as “tight” as my spanx but do wish that they had included a higher-waisted band which pulls the tummy area in. Don’t get me wrong, it still managed to shape my thighs, waist and tummy area, giving me confidence like never before. But I notice that they slip down and think that a tight high-waist band like seen in spanx and similar products, would prevent this from happening. The material is very movable and I never felt constrained by my clothes – actually, now that I think of it – you could probably do yoga in these jeggings. Also, there is none of that annoying business of zips and buttons – just slip them up!
Overall, I found them to be convenient more than anything. Usually, I wear denims out and as soon as I get home, I change into my comfy pants. But these are comfy pants. They look good enough to wear out and about, and are great for around the house, too. (every stay-at-home-mom’s dream!) OH… and the fact that it lifts my bum, doesn’t hurt – right, right, right?
