09 Jun Review: The Tan Lab
The Tan Lab has been a brand that I’ve basically watched since it’s conception – I remember the day that they shared their packaging design and pictures of their very first box being printed, so needless to say that I was very excited when they asked if I’d be interested in reviewing their products. Hell yeah! I haven’t had all that much experience with tanners and can count on my one hand the amount of tanners I have tried but… I have lost count on the amount of times that I’ve ended up with a streaky, orange tan.
Admittedly, I get a little nervous and even built up waiting for a tan to activate, worrying that I’ll end up looking more carrot than olive-toned but I’ve applied this tan a few times in the last 2 months and it’s one of my favourites, that I’ve tried.
The tanner is really easy to apply and doesn’t require a mitten or fancy tools to do so. I’d recommend a body scrub to exfoliate, before application of ANY tanner, for an even, long-lasting tan. The Tan Lab sent over an exfoliating glove which, as with all exfoliating products, I fell head over heels for. Instead of buying fancy scrubs, you can use your usual soap with the glove which gently removes dead skin cells. I also liked that when I used it a week after tan application, it gently removed the tan or any build up that might be found on ankles, toes and fingers.
A big plus regarding the packaging of the tanner is that the pump bottle that allows for easy use without getting the product absolutely everywhere. I also like the sleek and clean design – it’s timeless and elegant.
As for the product itself, the texture is thick and creamy. It absorbs quite easily and after about 5 minutes, you no longer feel like a freshly painted wall. The formula is cleverly designed to activate in 2 phases:
During the first phase, you can expect your tan to develop over the normal 8 to 12 hour period. This is your base colour.
The second phase of your tan will continue to develop even after showering! The full development period of the Erythrulose is 24 hours so expect a deeper tan to develop over the next day. This development process ensures a long lasting natural tan that will fade evenly.
I have a pet peeve when it comes to the coconut scent that seems to come with every tanner. I don’t really like smelling like I’ve just visited the Caribbeans all the time, and that’s why I’ve got such a sexy tan. The Tan Lab is no different. However, their formula isn’t as in your face and rather lighter but very long lasting. The coconut scent is sweeter and not nearly as bad as others found on the market which can come across cheap.
Personally, my favourite part is that there is absolutely no streaking! I used to have an issue, especially on my hands or arms, but now, there’s nothing!
The tan lasts about 10 days, before I reapply for a fresh new look. I’ve really enjoyed having this golden look, despite it being winter. I’m generally self-conscious about my mommy stretch marks around my tummy and even a few around my boobs. Tanning just helps eliminate that, it makes me feel and look great without all the worry of sun damage.
And, if you need any more reasons to love The Tan Lab, they’re also vegan friendly and do not test on our furry pals – yayee.
