Essence The Gel - By Megan Kelly

Essence and Catrice Gel Top and Base Coats

I had pretty much given up on the idea of having freshly manicured nails until these beauties landed on my desk.

To be honest, no nail polish lasts longer than a day, for me: I wash dishes, open boxes, scrub pots and pans, bath the baby before racing cars on the floors. So without a doubt there is always a chip in the polish. That’s if I even manage to sit still long enough for them to dry – moms are busy!

I also can’t stand the look of chipped polish so I am always left removing it and pretty nails, in this house, can only be found on Pinterest.

When these arrived, I brushed them off but just couldn’t resist the pretty colours that arrived with them! I mean, at least I’d have stunning nails for a few hours, right?

So I applied the base coat and to my surprise, it dries pretty much instantly. A point definitely worth mentioning is despite using sheer nailpolishes, I found that I didn’t have to do as many coats like I would usually do,without a base coat, and the most that I ever did were 2 coats which left me with bright and vibrant nails.

DSC_0483 (1280x720)As for the top coat, the Catrice formula seems thicker and even clumpier than the Essence, but I do tend to prefer the thicker formula. (That’s the only major difference I found with the two brands.)

The top coats apply smoothly and create a gorgeous glossy finish. They plump the nail up, much too my liking!  I have pretty brittle nails that tear constantly so love that by combining the top and base coat, my nails are evened out and look thicker and fuller, just like in the magazines! Oh, and I completely forgot to mention that the top coat dries really quickly too, which meant mom could change the unexpected- messy – nappy with ease.

So the big question would be longevity, right? Since including these goodies into my Manicure Mondays, I’ve been able to make my nails last for 4-7 days at a time. That must be a new world record for me! Woo-hooo!

Best part?

The top and base coats can be combined with any of the nailpolishes from their respected ranges. Which means endless colour combos and limitless creations – so have some fun!!

A few other things that I have also noticed is that there is no staining especially with red nail polish, which is notorious for leaving yellow nails. Also, my natural nails seem to be growing better and are stronger than ever before.

In short – these are an essential part of any nail collection, so ensure to get yours ASAP!
