04 Apr Travel Essentials
I have been meaning to share a few of my favourite “vacay” travel essentials since my last holiday in December and although we have no plans to go away for the long weekend, I thought there is no better time to share them, than now.
Philip Kingsley Travel Set
Price: Travel Set – R360 and available from selected Edgars stores or online
When it comes to hair, few things are more indulgent than Philip Kingsley. The set contains three travel sized items that will ensure a great hair day for every captured memory, of your holiday. The Body Building shampoo and conditioner work together to gently, remove any build-up of product while adding volume and strength to lifeless hair. The conditioner contains a fantastic detangler, keeping knots far away, it also has anti-static ingredients. The result is luscious locks, full of body! The hero of the set, though, is the elasticizer which has been raved about throughout the beauty community. I figured the true test would be my box-coloured hair which endures heat-styling tools on the daily basis. The Elasticizer contains Olea Europea Oil which is is high in Vitamin E and fatty acids, known to lock in moisture for that healthy gleam! I found this product to be really interesting, as you apply it to your damp hair, BEFORE shampooing your hair. I thought it would be a schlep, having to wait 20-30 minutes, with the treatment covered. But I just ended up using the time to put on a masque and read in the bath – worked well for me! All in all, the travel set is a fantastic spoil, the results are there! My hair was voluminous and shining like it had never done before – my hair felt fuller and healthier, and every day of my holiday was a good hair day!
Slim Sonic Toothbrush
Price: R299 and available from SlimSonic
I basically went into full gushing-girl mode when I saw this toothbrush. Nothing quite screams “BEST.HOLIDAY.EVER” like a big smile. I use this handy-little guy, which may look small but it is really feisty. Believe it or not, but this toothbrush does 22 000 strokes per minute! That is insanely powerful for its size, but as they say, “dynamite comes in small packages!” I love that it has a neat cap and that when closed, it almost looks like a snazzy reading-glasses case. It is small enough to fit in my makeup bag and is made for the girl on the go; juggling kids, gym, work, whatever – it fits in EVERY bag. You don’t have to worry about cables or charging as it only requires a single AAA battery which lasts for a really long while. And if pink isn’t your thing, don’t worry there are loads of colours and designs to choose from which include camo, animal print, glitter and bright colours. The set also comes with a extra toothbrush head, so if you find yours is getting a bit worn after a while, you can replace it. One thing is for sure, the price is really great considering it is a completely portable and trendy necessity, perfectly fitting into every girl’s life.
NYX Bohemian Chic
I had never owned any NYX products before purchasing this palette but had only ever heard raves about the brand. At first, I wasn’t really sold on it, but before long this palette became a firm favourite and the first that I have actually hit pan on! It contains 2 bright blushes with several matte nude eyeshadows and a few cool tones too. What I love the most is how versatile this palette is, you can stick to simple everyday looks, quick on-the-go looks or go for something more dramatic like a smokey eye. The quality is fabulous with great pigment and easily blendable shadows. When travelling, your space is limited and you want to be able to get the most of a product, while still being packaged in the right way. I have had many on-the-go sets which didn’t last a trip to the shop never mind a roadtrip across the country. However, this palette has seen me through several handbag, gym bags, overnight bags and even nappy bags. None of the shadows have cracked or broken with it being bumped around.
Nip+Fab Glycolic Wipes
I have featured these in a review before, so it shouldn’t be all that surprising as to why these are fabulous for travelling (and every other day) but in short, they are convenient, space-savers and effective at cleansing, exfoliating and treating the skin!
TRESemme Dry Shampoo
If you’re headed to the coast, your hair might suffer from the humidity or moisture in the air – or perhaps, you skipped out on washing your hair, altogether – needless to say, dry shampoo is really convenient to keep around, especially when travelling. You might find yourself lacking the facilities to wash your hair, short on time or just needing to freshen up your locks – this is the secret. The TRESemme dry shampoo revives hair by absorbing excess oil, leaving your hair looking and feeling fresh without all the fuss of having to wash your hair. Another benefit of using dry shampoo is that your hair becomes more voluminous, giving you the look of fuller hair.
Tropitone Self-Tan Lotion
It is no secret that a good tan transform how you look and feel. Usually, I’d lather on baby-oil and get burnt to the crisp and have a natural tan – but let’s just say, I have become aware of how dangerous that is, and have decided to opt for better and healthier options. I used this throughout December! It was a lifesaver and deserves every word of praise that it has received. I can’t remember the exact price but I know that when compared to every other tanner on the shelf, it was well below the rest. I applied it every 3rd or 4th day throughout the holidays, to keep that glowing look that comes with Summer. It’s the first tanner that I have tried that requires no mit or applicator and had no streaking whatsoever. It was remarkable how well it applies. I had so many compliments regarding my healthy looking skin. The only tip I can give, is to keep your skin moisturised, as it carries the tan better and makes it last longer, instead of looking “dirty”. Also, other tanners look orange, whereas this one was a light bronzed look and took 2 applications after one another to give the desired tan that I was looking for. Most impressively, the scent is not as nauseating as others that I have tried!
